Rock Band Wii Skips Out on Downloadable Content
Quote:
The Wii version of Rock Band, with its sleek white drums and wireless guitar, will release this June. The Wii version will even feature five additional songs that were not included on the other consoles - “Roxanne” by The Police, “Don’t Look Back In Anger” by Oasis, “Roam” by The B-52s, “My Dirty Little Secret” by The All-American Rejects, and “Rockaway Beach” by The Ramones. While these songs are not included off the shelf for the Xbox 360 or PS3, they are available as downloadable content.
Rock Band Wii
Sounds great, but this is where the Wii version drops the ball on one of the major benefits to the other consoles’ versions of Rock Band. Rock Band Wii will not offer downloadable content. A Harmonix representative confirmed to Shacknews that
“The Wii edition of Rock Band will not include online multiplayer or support for downloadable content.”
1Up is also confirming this
“It’s a major bummer that the Wii version of Rock Band will not have online play or downloadable content. We can live without online play, but the lack of downloadable tunes is a big blow to Wii owners, especially when Harmonix releases three new songs every week for the other versions.”
Yes, it’s true, not only will you not be able to download new songs to your Wii, your best friend 1423-2344-5355 and you will not be able to play online.
Rock Band Wii 2
Rock Band has had a steady flow of downloadable content since it first launched for Xbox 360 and PS3. In fact, those two versions have combined for over 6,000,000 downloads. Averaging somewhere between $1.50 to $2.00 per song, Rock Band has made a killing off of these downloads.
Why will the Wii not offer downloads and online play? Laser Sharks has been unable to find an explanation for this. It appears this is simply a case of Nintendo’s Friend Code strategy.

Rock Band not being online is not because of Nintendo. It is because Harmonix are being very lazy and they are just porting the PS2 version straight over. It's doubtful that the wireless GH3 guitar will even work with the game because they are not even putting the same amount of effort into the instruments as GH3 did.
It's their loss as much as ours because games like Rock Band are ideally suited to the Wii with its 'friends playing together' focus and gimping the game will surely gimp the sales too. I'm going to ignore Rock Band and stick with Guitar Hero, at least there was some effort put into it (even if they messed up the sound at first).

I understand no downloadables, but no WIFI?! Wii is a fine console you guys. It can do anything an Xbox can. I wont pay the same amount as the Xbox version but with half the features. Cut us some slack!

Please, people do NOT buy this game. This is seriously the most half-assed port to ever be released. They took out EVERYTHING from the 360/PS3 versions: online, DLC, World Tour, Create a Band, etc. They've left basically nothing. The game is terrible and will get poor reviews as a result. Refuse to buy this game and show EA that we won't take this crap.

Seconded.
I hate these "band" games anyway, but this port sounds ****ing terrible.

As I get into Guitar Hero (which also doesn't have downloadable songs) more and more, the utter idiocy of this is becoming more and more apparent. The bonus songs are crap, and somewhere down the line those core 42 are going to get old.
DLC is what would give these games endless longevity, and could provide a steady revenue stream to the developers. You know what? I've never paid for a single Wii Points card, but I would in order to download songs for Guitar Hero.
Hear that, Nintendo? Hear that, Activision?

It is NINTENDO's lack of HD space that is more likely the issue in regards to DLC... Online play, meh, nice but not really NESSASARY... However, DLC is more of a requirement --- plus a potential cash cow!
According to one video I saw on youtube, they did say they WERE looking in to DLC for the Wii. Let's see what happens...
Regardless, I have to buy this title...
1 - I'm ADDICTED to the drums ...
2 - My Sister has the XBOX 360 version but they live 45 minutes away lol
3 - My friends who have it in my building, well, they just don't like me coming over because I own the drums
Peace
