The Bomb

I was wondering: if you happen to be ranked in the last half of racers during a race and get the bomb, do you throw it forward or drop it behind you? Personally, I like to regain the lead (without using my bomb) and as soon as I pass the 1st place driver, drop the bomb behind me and blow the crap out of him/her and anyone else close. I just get a kick out of it.
