So, for me...

Mario Kart Wii is by far the most fun Mario Kart yet. Everyone can play, even the people who generally hate video games are playing and are doing well. The battle mode and versus mode are great when you have a group of friends over.

However, I do agree how random chance the game is. I'm still working through all of the Grand Prix cups to get at least one star on every single one of them. And it really seems that it's just luck to get it. The computer is easy to get ahead of, but you just have to hope that the entire time there's not a few blueshells coming at you. If there aren't easy win, congratulations on the star. If you are unlucky, better luck next time.

meh... read the first post in its entirety but didn't bother to read the rest. edcoche hits the mark though, this game doesn't hold a bar up to MK64. That is the true Mario Kart in my honest opinion. I'm 23, so I'm in the general category as edcoche, growing up with a similar library of games and I'm sure he'll agree that the Wii games that have been catered to a broader audience have made things turn for the worse. Online is great but... you know, I was loving this game in the first week and then just like that-

I stopped playing and didn't miss it at all. For a real gamer that demands quality, fairness, and skill that takes practice, Mario Kart Wii doesn't deliver. It still delivers on the fun factor, but not to the satisfaction level that Mario Kart 64 did.

Actually I just played the original mario Kart again today and to tell you the truth its no way near as good as MKW... I think i just held it in high esteem because I loved it so much when I was younger, I mean really look at it, you can have a max of 2 players (no online), you cand drift properly or get boosts from it, each CPU character has 1 special, Toad with the mushroom, luigi with the star, etc. which they seem to be able to pull out at any time.

I think I'll stick with Mario Kart Wii and Mario Kart DS on WIFI thanks

Also I finally hooked my DS upto WIFI and MKDS is just as great as WII except you can only have 5 players total but thats still fun when lying in bed!

The world didn't get to where it is today with every one getting along and agreeing upon things.

Kettricken, I identify with what you have to say.

Honestly, it really does suck when you get bombarded with an onslaught of items in a matter of seconds that take you out of the race. The game is too casual for me to really appreciate these days......

A) Maybe if you played more you'd figure out a way to avoid the onslaught. Afterall, you became such a pro because you logged so many hours in previous mario karts, correct?

B) This doesn't have the nostalgic value because it's NOT mario kart 64 or SNES kart. It's not the same. Don't blame Nintendo for you not growing up with MKWii in order to feel nostalgic when you grew up and played that. The reason you love SNES kart and MK64 so much is because you attribute the "good ol' days" of being a kid with not a care in the world, just hangin' out playing video games, to these games. It has nothing to do with Nintendo. It's just life. Christ, I am in love with Blades of Steel for nostalgia, and I downloaded Ice Hockey before it came out and was almost bored out of my mind, even though its a quality game. Cause I had so many good memories of Blades of Steel, I enjoyed it infinitely more.

PS I'm 19, don't pull some age crap on me.

I'm really struggling to see the point of you trying to validate yourself by saying, and I quote, "I am now a 26 y/o--as of last week, and I am used to things not going as planned (or expected,) I make 60K plus annually (so far) on zero debt, I am in phenomenal physical condition, I bang model quality girls on a regular basis, and life is generally good."

It sounds like when you ask someone, "Did you steal my wallet?", and they reply, "No of course I didn't. It's definitely not on the top shelf of the cupboard in the kitchen". It sounds like your overcompensating.

But I don't give a rat's ass about your life, whether your a fat, unemployed 35 year old man with 20 maxed out credit cards and living in your mother's basement or whether your the 26 year old man whore you say you are.

If you hear a Blue Shell coming and you are in second get out of the way, it's that simple. It gives a chance for others to catch up, what's the harm in that?

Instead of complaining about it, why not get use to the new control style?

They are?

It really is quite easy, just hold down the item trigger when you have a banana or similar item and it will remain behind you and block the incoming shell.

I'm pretty sure that happened in Double Dash as well.

Games generally aren't exactly the same as there predecessors.

How is changing some of the mechanics making it a kids game? Just because you are struggling dosen't mean it automatically is tuned into a kids game.

Congratulations.

Perhaps you should stop crying a river and get to know the new game mechanics. Yes I enjoyed the other Mario Karts in the series and this one does take a little while to get use to but the enjoyment for me is still well and truly there.

Nice one eagles, you nailed this dick.

I have been playing mario kart religiously since the SNES days, which were good times indeed (and nowadays movies are horrible too, I'll add.) Have some respect. They dont make 'em like they used to thats for sure. I most definitely hold rightful judgement over the pre-puberty biased numbskulls on this topic who have no way of appreciating the way things used to be by not growing up in the era. I was born in 1982 and was privileged to be brought up in a video game era that relied on solid games, and not graphics to draw popularity and widespread acceptation amongst the worthy. I used to be into PC gaming too and I personally witnessed the transitional era that made graphics mandatory--which simultaneously, unintentionally, and unfortunately changed the way people view video games.

What pisses me off about the game mostly is the complete and absolute unfairness of the game. It really is out of control. Yes, I am familiar with the concept of mario kart. At almost any given moment you are one 'box' gift away from remaining in the back of the pack or taking over a top place. It's crazy that you can have a flawless run and then be bombed with a blue shell that all of the sudden puts you in 8th place or worse for the run. The first 2 were much more practical, yet entertaining. I absolutely love the SNES and N64 version of this game and I was never too hot on the Gamecube version but I eventually warmed up to it. I always have thought it was inferior to the previous versions but it was worth owning as it was cheap entertainment that would otherwise be $$$ spent in a bar in a very short matter of time.

Things that suck about the new MK's include the ridiculous items, especially the blue shell. Why does that thing explode and take out anybody within the immediate area? My god that sucks!! The controls are horrid. Since the GC version you have to take turns with a different approach which sucks for a guy who logged so many hrs getting used to a particular style. Why the hell are the green shells so deadly all of the sudden? Also, why is it so much harder to take out a red shell that is honing in on you? Why is it that the red shell takes you out even if you pass somebody and they become the closest target to the shell? It is just so much different from the originals and those are the type of tactical methods that a veteran DOES not want to sway from.

Ultimately, I guess this game is for the kids, which I am no longer a part of. I am not trying to ruin it for them, but I guess I am complaining on behalf of those who are disgusted by the way things have gotten. Take it for what you will.

Regardless of that, my life is not ruined. I am now a 26 y/o--as of last week, and I am used to things not going as planned (or expected,) I make 60K plus annually (so far) on zero debt, I am in phenomenal physical condition, I bang model quality girls on a regular basis, and life is generally good. I am just pissed that my nostalgic roots cannot be satisfied to the extent that I wish they could be in regards to my mario kart tastes. I guess this is gods way of telling me that things always change, for good or bad, and that I need to deal with it.

I hope that you teenagers out there who most definitely were not around for the glory days (which is impossible for you to understand) take this seriously and try not to flame a guy who has already been torched. You cannot burn a marshmallow twice. Mine is already roasted.
is your whole first paragraph about why you bought the wii over the others? if so thats sad. by buying the wii youre just supporting companies reselling LAST GEN hardware under a new name, no it doesnt have to be ps3/360 level, but at least better. regardless, you bought the wrong system, youre looking for teh PS2.

I personally bet $5 this is a 26 yr old LOSER sitting in his mother's basement, in great condition for dungeon and dragons every night, and "banging" model quality women who are in a magazine called playboy. Also, he works at a local mcdonalds, making minimum wage.

When you start playing Mario Kart Wii you suck and have a bad ranking.

After you play for 30 hrs or so, you get a higher ranking and it continues to get higher as you practice more. How do people always fail to see that this actually IS a game of skill?
