my parents forced me to play sports as a kid, i loved it and gave it my all at each practice and game, but if it were up to me, i'd stay home. but at home i had a powerpad, and i would gladly run my butt off till i was gasping for air and hurting.
wii fit IS a good idea

Even if you're not in it for the exercise the game does actually look fun. We all liked the Wii Remote in Wii Sports, I think the Balance Board will have a similar level of immersion and enjoyment in Wii Fit.
if you plan on getting in shape with wiifit you will be round. round is a shape

I'm so excited for Wii Fit. I just love how Nintendo took the time to work on a game and peripheral that may or may not encourage people to live a better lifestyle than creating sequels or new hardcore game IPs. Thanks Nintendo!

Yes, but the problem is that most kids don't have the will to go outside and play sports. Wii Fit is designed to get them started on a healthier lifestyle.
You know what else could be almost as effective? Parents that aren't shitty.

I bought a Wii fit yesterday. If people think Wii fit alone will get them fit then they are wrong. However, the game (and it is a game) is a lot of fun and the balance board will be used in other games. The yoga, and balance stuff should help you get toned a bit, but only if backed up by proper normal exercise and a good diet. Some of the muscle strength stuff is hard and will help anyone if done properly and regularly.
However, if Wii fit can get a few tubby kids at least standing up for 20 minutes then it can do some good for them. Even if that the only exercise they do.

The fact that Wii Fit is making millions upon millions for nintendo as i type this, makes it a good idea.
Also, its a great way to begin getting into shape, and having some fun. You wont lose pound after pound, but you may well shed a couple. It isnt just about making you fit, its about making you aware of HOW to get fit. Thus, your more likely to do it.

"Going outside" doesn't target weight loss. Wii Fit does.
It is a lot cheaper than paying for a gym membership (over a couple months) and a trainer. Plus if you do start to get in a bad habit of not working out regularly then you can come back to WF as many times as you like.
The problem is that it is hardly an efficient weight loss tool and shouldn't even be uttered in the same sentence as a gym membership.
Although, it is better than no exercise and is probably the most active a video game will ever get a person...unless you count running around town trying to find a Wii to play it on.
Oh, please. The very same folks that are negative about Wii Fit are probably the very same folks who really NEED to get out and exercise themselves. Instead of going out and being active they are sitting at home on the couch playing with their XBox or Playstation. The truth is alot of folks don't have gym memberships. And some of the ones who do don't probably don't go very often because they don't have TIME. Between classes, jobs, kids, housework, etc....Welcome to this thing called life and adulthood.
Driving your kid to ballet classes takes priority over going to the gym and doing something for yourself. Cooking dinner for the family takes priority over going outside for a 1 mile jog. I'm not saying that Wii Fit will get you in great shape. But hey, if you can squeeze in even 10 minutes of yoga or a fake jog or heck even hula hooping and get your heart rate going with a game then why not?
And whose to say that folks who have Wii Fit DON'T go to the gym? Maybe they can afford and have the time to do both.
