Ever since i heard about LostWinds i knew i had to get this little Gem.

Cost = 1,000 wii points

The Download was less then a Minute.

So i boot up the game and first thing i notice is the music. It's so calm and fitting.

There are Three (3) Save Files.

I dont want to give to much away on this title so im just going to make small comments.

The Control is great. Nun chuck to move and wiimote to move the wind. Very responsive.

As you progress it lets you know how to work the controls. A Tutorial if you will.

Jump is automatic.

The world you can explore seems pretty big which is a plus for a wiiware game.

Again the music is very fitting for the backgrounds/landscapes. Makes you feel relaxed.

find totem Poles to Save.

More later.

James

I wish IGN had a review up. I wanna know how long the game takes to beat. If its like 4 hours not sure its worth $10, if its like 8-10 hours then might be worth it. I really wanna try it but I'm kind of looking for a more pick up and play game rather than an adventure.

Nintendo didn't give them an advance copy. I'm not sure if they gave anyone advance copies. But I'm sure they'll get a review out the door this week for all the games.

However, the developer told IGN it was about 3 hours.

Some Wii owners might complain that a three-hour WiiWare game is too short, but we submit that if you'll pay $50 for a 10-hour game, why not $10 for a three-hour one -- especially one as innovative as LostWinds?
I tend to agree. MoH:H2 has about 6 hours of campaign, and an "extra" 3 of arcade. Vanguard had about 8 Hours. Maybe 15 for Red Steel? 20 hours for a high budget, AAA title like MP3C. Next start looking at the price of retail portable games that can run from 20-40$ and their lengths, and I'm betting LostWinds stacks up nicely.

Erk... I was hoping it'd be longer for that price.

I am interested in this title but I wasn't sure how the controls would respond. Sounds like everything works well, once I get more points I will download this title.

ditto.

so far, the only wii points purchase i've been able to make without much thought has been downloading ocarina of time.

so that leaves me with 1000 points and the fear of blowing it on some crappy excuse for a game.

For pick up and play, try defend your castle (<----review). The flash game conversion. Getting it ad free (those browser ads are Really annoying) might be worth $5.

Here's the original

I'm about ten minutes into it. It's okay so far, it's really fun traveling around on gusts. You'll find you tend to do this instead of just walking normally, because it's such an original gameplay mechanic.

The review is up. It got an 8.2, I believe. The low score is primarily due to no replay value and a story that lasts only 3 hours. It got a 5 in that category.

And I totally agree with IGN with the belief that 3 hours is simply too short even for a $10 game. I can find free games online that last longer than that.

You're really taking liberties with what they said.

...

We're right out of the WiiWare gate and I'm already taken aback by the quality of LostWinds. Here's a game that proves with smart play mechanics and a beautiful visual style that developers can do so much with 43 megabytes, let alone the disc space available for full Wii games. The game's got a fresh gameplay hook, mostly tight controls, surprisingly clean and polished graphics and perfectly peaceful melodies. Unfortunately, it all comes to an end too quickly for my liking. (I'm hopeful for sequels.)

Still, if you've got the cash to spare and you're all right with a three- hour experience, LostWinds is a WiiWare showpiece and definitely worthy of your attention.
And none of that is inconsistent with their earlier musing on the time issue:

They acknowledged the length as a downside, but they clearly did not pan the title for length as you did.

This game looks a lot (mostly the wind reminds me of the paintbrush) like Okami, I might buy this but I dunno...

Im half way through the game.

Im enjoying it all. The Wind upgrades you receive are pretty cool. The puzzles thus far aren't really challenging (got stumped once and took me a few mins to figure it out... ;-)) Hope they get harder.

There are hidden statues throughout the world to find and collect. That will add on to the short length of the game. Not sure what will happen when i find them all.

Im not really to far concerned about the length of the game....im more concerned with the quality of the game paly and where it takes me. So far my $10 feels well spent.

I'm really enjoying it so far. I'm stuck right now and I'm not sure where to go exactly. If that happens alot perhaps it will lengthen the experience. It's pretty cool right now but I hope I get more powers soon.
