IIRC, according to the box the maximum weight in the US is 330. Someone correct me if I'm wrong.

Yeah, I used it on the carpet -- but when I (through the Wii) checked the balance board, it said it was obstructed. Then I read the manual, and if your carpet touches the bottom of the board, you need to add the foot extensions they give you. If it still reaches the bottom of the board, you need to place it on a hard surface (piece of wood, yoga mat, etc.).
Anyway, my wife and I registered ourselves -- and as expected, I'm overweight (argh) and she's darn near perfect. We can't wait to compete in some of the training exercises. I love how it keeps a Top 10 for each thing, so it's easy to keep track.
I'm loving Wii Fit already, and can't wait to get in better shape!

I got one. Wii Fit looks great as a smart scale that keeps track of weight loss, balance, etc. but the real fun for me is with We Ski!

I'm subscribing because I need some information from some people that have had a wii for a while now.
If you've been disappointed with the number of games on wii that you play through once and then set aside, please answer the following questions:
-Do you see yourself doing the same with Wii Fit?
-How many games are there and how easy is it to become bored with them?
-How extensive is each game?
-Is it good for both multiplayer and single player?
I realize that the game is very new and therefore it may be difficult to answer some of these questions, but I'd appreciate a response. I truly like the idea, I'm just wary about buying another gimmicky game.

This will not be popular but I think Wii Fit will be collecting dust just like a lot of treadmills, execise bikes, and other sutff. Yes it is a great program for measuring your weight and keeping track of weight loss but the majority of people do not tend to keep up exercising.
I am finding it to be FUN with the We Ski. The games that came with Wii Fit or shallow and simplistic. The exercises, yoga, etc are all things you can do on your own. I just dont see how getting a star or other reward from a video game is going to push people to exericse unless they are really motivated.
Now for the simple truth: Wii Fit might cause couch poatoes to sweat but it is not really serious exercise. You need to start running and lifting weights if you really you want to see maxium benefit. I dont think the Wii Fit package really is going to cause many people to be in shape.

I didn't mean from an exercise standpoint, but in terms of gaming.

For what it's worth, here's my two cents *plink plink* ...

To be honest, most of us who have (or will) get Wii Fit will love it at first. We'll boast about this and that, like the fact it motivates us to do more exercising beyond Wii Fit, or simply watching what we eat more closely, or how realistic it is with sensing our balance, etc. So I'll save you from all the "great" things I think (so far) about Wii Fit.
Now, as far as it having a lasting appeal, that'll depend on how serious the person is on getting (or remaining) in better shape. Just like any other game, if someone is competitive enough or loves the game enough, they'll play it over months and years. So Wii Fit having a lasting appeal really depends on if someone stays motivated enough to keep in shape (even after you may reach some goals).

The game says it has 40+, so I'm not sure exactly. I can see people getting bored with them if they did with Wii Play and Wii Sports games. But I think doing them in moderation will help keep that from happening, especially if you play them within a certain daily routine you set up.

I haven't unlocked them all, but from what I've played, they aren't extensive at all. Simply put, they are minigames (like Wii Play and the training mode of Wii Sports). But what will make you go back and do them again and again will be making them a part of your workout routine. What sets Fit apart from Play and Sports (as far as the minigames go) is the fact that those of us who treat Fit as a way to get (and remain) in shape, while having a little fun, will incorporate the minigames into our "workout" routine. So I think that will give it a different lasting appeal.

In my opinion, yes. I will probably play more than my wife, so I will enjoy doing 30- to 45-minute workouts on my own, then competing against my wife in certain training modes. What I think most of us are looking forward to are games that will come out in the coming months that utilize the balance board (like We Ski). I'm sure they'll focus on having fun single and multiplayer options.

Well, to speak more towards the gaming aspect...
I think the fact it incorporates earning stars and rankings for (all?) the different workouts and minigames, will give both hardcore and casual gamers something fun to try and accomplish. If it was JUST about BMI, then yes, I could see many of us getting bored quickly. But since it ranks your times and scores (not just on your Wii Fit profile, but against anyone who creates a profile on your console), it should have a fun gaming appeal.
Again, though, we are probably paying $70 for the balance board and $20 for the Wii Fit game. Similar to how we paid $40 for an extra Wiimote and $10 for Wii Play. That's how I look at it. So if in a month or two, I'm "bored" with Wii Fit, then I'll have (hopefully) other games that are compatable and fun with the balance board.

Interesting. I still don't know what to do. One part of me can see myself using it every day and another sees it collecting dust after a week (ie: just like all my other games).
I'm half tempted to get it just because it is one of the best scales on the market. I've needed a scale for a while now. If it had a more extensive tracking system (diet/exercise rather than weight/bmi) I would most certaintly pick it up.
Thanks for the response, though. It helps a lot.

Are you saying that just the Wii Fit game will collect dust, or the game and balance board will? Because in your following paragraph, you state that We Ski is fun, and I assume you (like me) will be looking forward to upcoming games compatable with the balance board. In that case, the balance board won't "collect dust." And as I mentioned in an earlier post, we're paying most of the $90 for the balance board, not the game.
And also, to counter your "it won't get people in shape" statements, I really do think that the game itself will help MOTIVATE people (hopefully me) to get in shape. Does that mean also jogging or lifting weights? Maybe. But having on screen instructions telling me what I'm doing or not doing will be very helpful, especially with the yoga and strength training exercises. If I were to simply buy a DVD of a trainer (i.e. Billy Bo), all he would be telling me is what to do (not correcting something I may not know I was doing wrong).
Anyway, as stated before, I'm not 100% sold that I'll be playing Wii Fit in a couple months. But so far, I have the feeling it will help motivate me to get (and stay) in shape.

I picked mine up at GameStop this morning about an hour after opening. As of right now, it's still all boxed up and sitting where I put it after I came home from a (somewhat tiring) afternoon of errands with my kiddos. I'll probably open it up and play around with it later tonight after the girls are in bed.
I do foresee a problem with our carpet, though...we have a pretty thick, plushy carpet and I imagine I'll end up needing a board to put the balance board on. I don't think my husband has a decent piece of scrap plywood in his workshop at the moment, so it may be a few days before I can really do anything with it.
I'm looking forward to it, though!

I am saying that I think the Wii Fit game will collect dust. I think the balance board has all the potential in the world.
I absolutely love skiing and I am having a blast with We Ski. However, I realize a skiing sim isnt everyones cup of tea. However, if you find a full game that is something you really enjoy then I think it is going to be better than Wii Fit. Wii Fit is an exercise and weight management package and the games are unique but simple and not deep and they do not have the replay value of Wii Sports. Most of it is just exercising. I do think it is good at Yoga and Yoga and improving balance and muscle has a lot of benefits but I dont think gamers will get into it because of Wii Fit unless they already liked Yoga.
I would just like to see a few more games that use the balance board designed to be fun. Obviously Skiing, Skateboarding, Snowboarding, and other games are a natural fit for this. I am hoping that some indies utilize the balance board and offer games through Wiiware. I am sure there could be some unique games created for it.
I think the Wii Fit is nifty but very trendish. I think the balance board is great is what it comes down to.

You wont need a board. It commes with an alternative set off stands for ultra thick carpet.
