I use automatic and i have a VR of 6,500....and im pretty decent. Automatic isnt for noobs, since i beat those using Manual on a daily basis. Nice one FR .

i played most of the grand prix on automatic but then switched over to manual since online manual users have an advantage, mastered manual drifting so thats what i use now. maunaul is a lot more fun imo

No, it's called compensation...making up for what you don't have. Since automatic users do not have the boost after a drift, it only makes sense to choose a fast vehicle to help compensate for it. And actually, it is tactics.

Automatic, you dont have to worry aboutdrifting everyturn. manual sucks if its a little turn that u cant drift well.
manual is what the record setters use, so.

That's fine. I'll just do both--a fast vehicle and boosts with manual drifting. I win.

I use manual because it's 20 times more precise. I can line up my wheelies and boosts just right for every turn... With my vr about to peak 9500 I just need some free time to get to 9999... also I don't think it's possible to get a three star ranking with automatic because you won't reap to hps that you get from mini boost...

If I cared about the game, I'd use manual. I tried it out, and there's no question if you care to master it, it'll cut down your time. Even on your quick accelerating bike.
I just don't care enough to bother. I race a little, I shoot a little, and then I don't play again for a week. Nub isn't a bad term for that style of player, but "Casual" is probably a little more accurate. I'm a hardcore vet at MoHH2, but Mario Kart just doesn't inspire that same flavor of competition in me.

That's a great way of putting it. While I care about my well-doing in Mario Kart, there are other games where I focus on my rank even more.

And he wins the internet!
Using Wii Wheel - There's a larger learning curve and you're not allowed to relax your arms, drifting is harder. So people usually (as in, not always so you wii wheel boosters don't attack me) use Automatic.
Anything else - Simpler to take control of, easier to drift.
If you're using automatic, you're at a disadvantage. Period. End of sentence. No escape.
........
Rated R.
I could go on about the Wii wheel as well, but I can see how one can get used to that. But having challenges that are only for people who use the wheel is like Brawl having stages/modes that can only be used by people that use one of the control types.

But it's not like it's difficult to master. Seriously: spend 30 minutes with it and you'll have it down pat. It's not like you're trying to master snaking or something.

manual = boosts = star rankings
just an assumption, but does achieving a 3-star ranking on a course require that you beat the course's expert ghost time?

Points for you!
Surely, if ou're using a fast bike to make up for it, then obviously using that bike on manual would put you at a higher advantage... It's common sense.
