I'm only 3 seconds from the top ten using automatic for Moo Moo Meadows. If you want the absolute fastest time, manual. If you want precise steering in hard to turn corners, manual. However, if people keep picking newbie stages to race on. Back out, pick the fastest bike, set it to automatic and prepare to blow right by them. Unless you are racing the top 10. If that's the case, they already won.

But it's not like it's difficult to master. Seriously: spend 30 minutes with it and you'll have it down pat. It's not like you're trying to master snaking or something.
It would probably take me a little longer to hit those corners optimally, but even if you're right, I don't care 30 minutes worth. I look at Mario Kart like I look at most flash games. It's just not worth getting really good at (to me). It's just fun to tool around on a little.
I always use manual. I don't care which one is better or faster, I just like drifting. If there wasn't manual drifting, you would just be sitting there, holding a button and moving a joystick; drifting gets you more involved in the game IMO.
Dry Bones, Standard Kart S, Manual

More like: Pick the fastest bike and manual and then blow past all the noobs riding their fast bikes on automatic.
Pwned.

But it's not even like it's 30 minutes of dedicated pratice or that it's even a skill. Seriously, if you simply play on manual for 30 minutes, you'll have it nailed. If the game is just something to tool around with, why not just use manual for 30 minutes and get it over with. It's not training or anything.
It sounds like someone is just afraid to take off her/his training wheels...

Honestly, it's more of a general skill factor than what type of drift you are using. I'm smoked a fair share of manual users on "fast bikes" while racing on Rainbow Road or Maple Treeway. I'm just trying to end this "automatic = noob" thing because it's ticking me off.
Atomheart, please don't double post...edit.

Maybe I'll give it another go this weekend. Probably not though. If it's not a skill, then why does not using it make someone a noob? The only things that legitimately separate vets from noobs are skill-based activities.

Already did (like I said in my first post), didn't go for it. Sounds like someone is a widdle sensitive about his widdle kart game.
I really don't understand why anyone would use automatic, unless they were new to the game and just wanted to get used to it from a very basic level. I don't see what the point would be in playing it if you didn't use manual!

I don't think that everyone that uses automatic are noobs, however 96% of them probably are. The only reason it's downplayed is because manual is so much better if you know how to use it. Much more precise. Plus after you get blue shelled you can do a standing mini boast which saves you about 4-5 seconds every blue shell or red shell...
