"We recently announced the upcoming release of Mario Super Sluggers," said Marc Franklin, director of public relations at Nintendo, when asked by GamePro on Friday which upcoming Wii titles core gamers should be excited for. "Additionally, we will be announcing several new titles that core gamers will be interested in around the time of E3."
In January, Nintendo released its first-half game lineup for Wii, which included heavy-hitters like Smash Bros. Brawl, Mario Kart Wii, and Wii Fit, in addition to numerous unknown titles. Since then, the company has remained quiet on its second-half release list, with exception to Mario Super Sluggers. Despite this, some have speculated that a new Zelda game, a Kid Icarus revival, and/or an all-new Wii franchise will surface at E3.
Franklin's remarks come amid growing concern by some gamers that Nintendo mostly focuses on casual games at the expense of fewer traditional ones, something the company dismisses while admitting greater accessibility in games like Super Smash Bros. Brawl and Mario Kart Wii.
"The clear majority of people waiting in line outside retailers on Sunday mornings to buy their Wii consoles are core gamers," maintains Franklin.
What's more, he suggests outside publishers have already begun to roll out a maximum number of Wii titles intended for the dedicated gamer. "Look at the plans being made by third-party publishers," Franklin says. "They realize that Wii is the current platform of choice in this generation, and their bottom lines depend on appealing to the largest base."
wow so now theyre using core gamers as their main audience? give me a break. casual, core, hardcore..... i think theyre now trying to say core gamer so they feel more like the ps2 and its success.

I'm expecting (hopefully) a Kirby game to be announced for the Wii. I hope not anything such as racing, golfing or pinball but an actual adventure (similar to Kirby 64.).

Yea, that is what I meant like 3 or more "core" games. Along with Icarus I'd love to see Fzero, Pikman, Metroid Hunters, Zelda Next. Rather than only showing WiiSports, Mario Baseball, and Wario type games. I originally thought Reggie just mean 1 core game...and if it was just Animal Crossing I'd be let down. Even though I really want to get that game, I want something like Kid Icarus etc.

F-Zero has already been rumored to be showcased at E3. As for a Zelda and Mario Galaxy 2 that is highly likely, as that's not the way they work things with Mario games. It goes as to Mario Party- Mario platformer- Mario sports-Mario sports-Mario Sports-Mario Party-Mario platformer. Also, don't expect a Donkey Kong game, as one has already been released on the Wii.

No Donkey Kong because there was already one on the Wii? I don't know about that and that game was a port from the GameCube anyways as it was set to be released late in the GameCube's life but was saved for Wii. A DK platformer or anything else is still possible.
No Mario, but Zelda is still possible to be showcased and I don't know why so many people keep downplaying that. Twilight Princess was a GameCube title, and theres usually two Zelda games on each console so a new Wii one isn't that far off. If one is shown at E3 it won't come out till mid 2009 anyways.
My money is on Kid Icarus and Animal Crossing being shown and Pikmin, F-Zero and Zelda are announced.

In no way am I downplaying Zelda. I just believe it's too early right now for another Zelda game, despite it being a port from the Gamecube. As for the 2009 E3, I can see a Zelda title coming out, but at the moment I think of it as being highly doubtful. Donkey Kong may have also been a Gamecube port, but due to the lack of sales on it I don't expect a DK game to be released anytime soon. If so, it will probably be another horrific Donkey Konga game.

To you hardcore Nintendo fans: Do you think Nintendo will make a Wii Sports 2? I m not expecting it at E3 but I know Nintendo said making Wii Sports 2 would be too easy and not original enough. I am having a hard time getting a good feel for what Nintendo says and what they do. How is Wii Sports 2 any easier than Mario Kart Wii for example?
A new Wii sports with Online Play would sell more copies than any other title in the U.S.
I don't think an actual Wii Sports 2 will be made. Just look at all the other titles inspired by Wii Sports, such as Deca Sports, Summer Sports, Winter Sports, Olympic Games 2008, Olympic Games 2009, Paradise Island, and I can continue to go on. Many of these games feature sports such as Volley Ball, Shuttlecock, Figure Skating, Snow Boarding, Swimming, Hurdling, Basketball (arcade style shooting), and I can continue to go on. Nintendo already set a summit for many imitations, making them not have to focus on a sequel but put their time toward something more innovative.

If they make another Mario game like Galaxy, I would be stoked. Sure the first half of the game was to easy, but getting every single one towards the end was both challenging and rewarding. The art direction, controls and music were great to.
I'm hoping for a new Pikmin game being announced, I really like that franchise.
