IGN has rounded up the 20 games of the summer for each console.

Check out the Wii's list, then check out the PS3's (or 360's). As a Wii owner, I think I died a little bit inside...

What are you talking about thats a pretty good list , specially 3rd party wise for the Wii.
I say about 50% of it I would pick up. The EA sports "all play" is kinda stupid, although i never got into sports games much anyway.

Beyond that, we know there is alot of games not mentioned yet that will pop up at E3 here soon. Nintendo has always been the last to say what is comming out.

Normally summer is the time of game drought. This year's summer is actually a difference from last year. Huge hits don't come out in the summer because people are usually not in their house, but rather outside enjoying summer.

There is about 5 or 6 decent games in that list though, maybe not all buy worth but still playable. I don't see what the gripe is really, yeah the Summer for Wii games isn't perfect but the months following the Summer will be a bigger improvement.

I kind of wish Mario Baseball was released a bit earlier, oh well.

None of the lists were really that great.

Out of all of them the only ones I'm going to buy are Unreal Championship 3 and the Force Unleashed(depending on reviews and such).

And am I the only one getting sick of all these guitar hero games still coming out? They're all the same, I don't see the need for like 50 different ones.

hmmm, i actually thought that was a fair list for all 3 consoles, however, i think the 360 runs away with this one, but some of the 360 multiplatform games, ill likely get on ps3 like bad company and hells highway simply because i dont have xbox live but i do have PSN.

for the wii, i liked tiger woods 08 and 07 so i may pick up 09, might, but i dont know, madden, ill be picking up on ps3, again, simply cause i dont have live, mario sluggers im definetly gonna rent *i always rent mario sports games, if i like them i buy them*

but i know what im looking forward to the most

E3 W0ot

*c'mon resident evil 5 release date!!!!*

*orgasms*

The summer is always a quiet period but I think that it's a pretty good list. It is good to see the 3rd party Wii games seeming to have more effort put into them too.

There was nothing on the 360 or PS3 lists that really made me think 'wow' either, they are mostly sports sequels, multiplatform games or games I've seen before on another format. The only real stand out games for me there were Too Human on 360 and Socom on PS3 but it they turn out to suck then it'd be pretty lackluster as a whole. Soulcalibur IV could be good but i'm not too interested in it, especially if Clone Wars is decent as that would provide my lightsaber duelling fix.

Here's what I'll probably be picking up:

PS3

- SOCOM Confrontation
- Battlefield Bad Company
- Soul Calibur IV
- (Maybe) Madden '09

Wii

- Super Mario Sluggers
- (Maybe) Top Spin 3
- (Maybe) We Love Golf

I don't know what EA was thinking...All Play??? The idea seems pretty dumb to me. Not all Wii owners are this into casual and simplistic games.

Quality kept rising up and down there...mainly down. Nothing I would personally buy, looks as if boom blox and brawl for my summer.

If anyone is excited for some of the ports be warned...some look/are very poor.

With the Wii, most developers are trying to reach as wide an audience as possible, which is something that Microsoft seems to be interested in as well.

Just out of interest, how do you feel about Microsoft's rumored plans to get more casual content onto the 360?

Well he doesn't know them personally but the Wii's sales and attach rate show it.

Metroid only just sold a million out of a possible over 20 million however games like Wii Play and Wii Fit are simply dominating it with sales figures. Most of Wii's 'good gamer games' haven't sold to well.

post above me sums it up. they are making "casual games" for "casual gamers", that are poorly made and sell a lot.

i think microsoft trying to break into the market is a stupid idea. they created the "gamer's console" and should stick to improving that. but hey, its business, and where ever theres money, no matter what means you get it by, is where you should be at (just ask nintendo).

That list is hilarious. There are like, 2 or 3 good wii games. The rest is utter crap. Last summer was awesome, metroid prime 3 was released (enough said), and during E3 the release dates for the remaining "Big 3" (Brawl and Galaxy) were revealed.

Nintendo's been talking about the core gamer though, so maybe at this E3 they'll reveal star fox wii or pikmin 3 (or both). Maybe talk about the forgotten/abandoned Disaster: Day of Crisis.

And don't be afraid guys, from a strictly business perspective, NOTHING sells more than the big core games for Wii. Yes, casual games sell a lot, people just love to spend 50 bucks on a game where they throw a waffle at a wall or play sports for 20 minutes and then leave the Wii to collect dust for months until the next meant-for-retards game comes out.

But just look at the sales for Mario Galaxy, Metroid Prime 3, Brawl, Mario Kart Wii, Super Paper Mario, etc. Even if Nintendo didn't care about their fan base at all (and they show that very clearly when they turn a deaf ear to the people requesting online communication, and when Mother 3 only released in Japan), they make the MOST money when they release a big, meant-for-gamers title, and that's a fact.

Twilight Princess, Super Mario Galaxy, Super Smash Bros. Brawl and Mario Kart did alright though...

Even with them not selling "well" developers are still making games with better effort, we're starting to see it more with games like The Conduit, Mad World etc.

As for EA and its All-Play stuff its not completely casualizing the experience, its just improving in those areas as well as adding new Modes (Madden 09 has call your own shot mode etc.) The only game that really seems to be affected by this All-Play stuff is NBA Live 09, that just sounds like utter trash to me but Madden 09 sounds promising.
