Let's hope the screens are bad quality, because if that's how the game looks, it's a step above Doom.

Yet, an HDTV is still needed to output the Wii at its maximum resolution.

Actually, no. Guess no one here knew of all the devices before HDTVs that were perfectly-capable of displaying 480p, heh.
But this is off-topic. Suffice it to say that while HDTVs can display 480p, and most people didn't experience 480p until they got an HDTV, 480p is not HD and existed before HDTVs and was displayable before HDTV and still displayable without an HDTV. Quick Google search reveals a whole slew of models:
Toshiba 42DPC85
Philips 42PF9936D
Philips 42PFL3603D
LG 32PC5DVC
Sony FWD42PV1A/S
Samsung PPM42M5SBX
Hisense TA42P40M
and so on and so on...

most of those tv's are considered Hi Def.
that is why they are refering to the new ones as "FULL HD"

480p is not high definition, it is referred to as enhanced definition.
Resolution for 480p is 852 x 480, which is a 16:9 widescreen format. It only displays more pixels than regular tv in the width dimension (regular tv is 640 x 480 at 4:3), but is not really higher definition since the pixel count in height remains the same.
High definition starts at 1280 x 720 (known as 720p).
A "p" only denotes progressive scan, the "i" denotes interlaced.
Progressive is better than interlaced, however it is difficult to see a difference between interlaced and progressive scan in higher definitions during regular use unless you are really looking hard for it.
See here for more information http://www.cnet.com/4520-7874_1-5137915-1.html
As far as the video and screen-shots go, of course they are not going to look as good as the game in person. The screen shots and video are all compressed, so the pixel resolution is just not there to show all the detail that is actually present.
The new trailer definitely shows better gameplay than any previous videos, but you can't judge just how the game looks unless they release some full resolution screen shots or video.

Well the AI in the new trailer looks really dumb, but it still looks like the Wii's best shooter so far. However there isn't much competition. Thank god this game has wi-fi though, because that raises the replayibility by a lot. Graphics still need a lot of work, though.
I really want this game to be good, and I want to buy it, so I'm looking forward to hearing more about the mulitplayer. Good thing this is an '09 release because it has a ways to go.
EDIT: And the music is really cool.

No, they're not. Bradleyd also explained this to you.
They are not "hi def". They are standard-definition 480-line displays that are widescreen.
Just because you may not have been able to experience 480p until you got a high-def TV does not make 480p "high def". That'd be like saying that because someone who goes to college can read, that means someone who can read is "college educated".

Philips 42PFL3603D - Panel resolution 1920x1080p
and now that ive searched it, i realise that they arent. but a lot of people dont realise that the 720p tv's are Hi Def Tv's and they are cheap as at the moment. people think they need a full on sony bravia

Exactly this game has tons of time to fix things, Q1 2009 could be January, February, March hell even April.

Yeah, I hope they tweak the graphics a lot in that time, because this has the potential to be the best looking Wii game. And in that time I'm also hoping for some in depth multiplayer. Maybe even split-screen?? Please.

April would be Q2, but still, the game could be delayed past Q1, Project Origin was just delayed.

Looks good, hopes the multiplay isn't laggy.
Honestly, if they follow Halo 2's online approach (as much as I'm not a fan of that series), they could do just fine.

They traded split screen multiplayer for hardware demanding visuals.
