I've been wondering whether or not to mod my wii. I have for backups of my games and imports in the past on other systems, and have been searching for the best information on mod chips.
If like me you want information about mod chipping your wii, i've found a website which gives a very comprehensive comparison of all the mod chips available.

From what I can see from the site, the generally accepted idea from the comparison page is that the best are wiikey , wiid and wiinja delux, although for functionality and price, the wiinja delux is the best of those three.
