I'm thinking of buying one.

If you have the everybody votes channel im pretty sure it gives you an update that makes it so modchips dont work

No it doesn't. The Wii has no way to tell if there is a modchip in it.

i heard that the only reason they made the EBV channel was so you would get the anti-modchip update. That was why the channel came out of nowhere.

Nope. The modchips don't actually do anything with the Wii software, it just inserts some code into what the DVD drive is sending to the Wii.

There are chances. For example: If you play a game from a different region and it has an update on it make sure to update from something in your region first, because if you update it from a different region it will be bricked.

Bricked means it is broken and useless. It is turned into a brick since it won't function.

When I chose to put a chip into my Wii I could choose between:
- Wiinja
- Cyclowiz
- Wiikey

Of those three, choose Wiikey. It has the best support and is currently the best chip. I have read almost everything about those three chips and Wiikey is simply the best one.
