will US nunchucks work with the japanese version? and i have the us version of the classic controller for the wii and i hooked it up to the japanese version of the wii and so far havent got to use it. is it not compatible?

If the classic controller didnt work, then odds are the nunchuk won't work.

Something else is wrong. Even the US wiimotes work on the japanese console. There are no differences between regions.

like ciper said you should be able to use the remotes/nunchucks with any region console...(i personally have tried UK and US ones between consoles and all worked fine)
