I keep my Wiiconnect on standyby but my wii always gets too hot can i turn my standby on then unplug the system?

May I ask how to disconnect (other than pulling the plug)? I just bought the console for my kids and I want it to be turned off when not in use.

I have mine connected to Wiiconnect24 all the time. I haven't really checked to see if its hot or not. Could this lead to the console to overheat? Should i have the wiiconnect24 turned off some of the times?
