Black Flickering Lines...

Here's what happened:

My little cousin and I were playing an intense game of Smash Bros, when suddenly he got a bit too wild with his controller and yanked on it. My Wii tipped over sideways and landed on the dressertop (yes, I have it set on top of a dresser).
I didn't think it was anything serious. I mean, it didn't even fall to the floor. But as I reset it to look at the damage (yes, don't worry, I yelled at my cousin), I notice that there are faint, black flickering lines in various places on the screen in the Wii Menu. It's barely noticable, but when I play games with a bright, solid colors, such Super Mario Galaxy or the Legend of Zelda: Twilight Princess (by solid, I mean mostly one color, ie: SMG, when you are in the Ghostly Galaxy and go to that weird realm with the green clouds. Loz: TP, when you go into a dungeon and look at a cave wall), they seem to divide my TV into "columns", like there are black little lines running vertically down my TV.
It's not very noticable; there has to be a lot of motion to really point it out. But it still bothers me. Yet, I don't think it's even worth sending in for repairs. I doubt the people will even notice the damage. So is there a way I can fix this by myself? Could it be a problem with the component cable? Can I just buy a new one? Could it be my TV? I haven't noticed the black lines until the incident though.
Please tell me possible solutions.

I never heard of such a thing. I think it might be your TV. Try your Wii on another TV if you have one and check if the same thing happened.

I'm pretty sure that's not the case.
Before the accident, my Wii was connected to our living room big screen TV. Then, I moved it to my room, and I'm positive that those black lines didn't show up until the incident. I guess it's worth a try though, except it's a pain in the neck to unhook the Wii from my TV. All the cables go behind my desk...

I just started noticing these lines as well. I've had the Wii for about 7 months now and didn't have a single problem with it while using a 42 plasma. I just bought a 32" Sharp Aquos and now I see these lines all the time. At first I thought it was the tv but the ps3 and xbox 360 look great. I tried with both the regular av cables and the component.

good news to you guys who have this problem, i called nintendo today and they said it sounds like the wii is starting to go bad. i only had mine for three months. as long as you havent opened your wii to mod it you can send it back if you had it a year or less. i even lost my proof of when i bought it and they knew when and where i bought and are paying for everything to ship it. best costumer support ever. they said they will replace all my virtual games and miis and save data on a new wii. hope this helps

It sounds a little too good to be true...

I just got off the phone with nintendo. they said nothing is for sure and that I should send in the console anyway. they will be paying for the shipping so that's good news at least. he sounded like he didn't know what he was talking about so that made me worry. hopefully they can fix the problem and not send it back with the same problems.

mine fell off of a dresser, stereo and xbox. a total of like 1 meter (3 feet) and it still works. i was playing paper mario and my dads dog walked in and caught the controller wire and it got pulled down
it still works though

Well I am gonna get my dad's old LCD sometime soon...
he promised he'd help me move it on the weekend, but he's really lazy. I can't rely on him.

Anyways, I sorta tested my Wii on his TV. The black flickering lines were still there, but even less noticable. It's weird, because I imagined that a larger TV will blow up the black lines even larger. Hmmm...

Do you mean "replace" as in the internal video hardware, or the actual Wii itself? Because if they actually just give you a new console, doesn't that mean that all your memory is erased?

I don't think it's worth it, if that's the case. Like I said, it's not very noticable, just bothersome.

OK, I'm thinking of calling them tomorrow.

But do you know how they'll react to a thirteen-year-olds voice? I haven't exactly gone through *cough*puberty*cough* so my voice hasn't cracked to sound lower yet. Would they say "do you have an adult at home that I could talk to?"

And I have two problems with that: 1.) I don't like being talked down to like that. I'm a nerdy Asian kid, and I know a lot of technical terms. A lot more than the average college student. 2.) My mom knows nothing about electronics; she treats them like they're cursed. My dad knows quite a bit about that stuff actually, but he never likes talking to those technical guys. He thinks that they don't know what they're talking about. And maybe he's right. He also hates shipping things.

But his alternative idea is to a.) open up the Wii, thus voiding my warranty, and fixing the problem himself. b.) getting a new one, meaning that I will have to re-add all my friends, make all my miis, download every VC title I have, and miraculously recover all my game save data without an SD Card. As you can see, I'm in a bit of a predicament here.

the guy on the phone said that if they did have to replace the wii they would transfer all my data and miis to the other one. he said the only thing is once they transfer your miis you wont be able to edit the ones that are on your wii you would have to erase the ones you want to change and remake it. so you wont lose anything including game save data or vc games.

all fixed

I just got my Wii back from Nintendo yesterday. The problem is fixed and they reset my warranty. It came back with a different serial number so i'm not sure if its a brand new console or if they had to put a new one on since they opened up my original. that really doesn't matter though because those lines are gone and i'm happy.

That's good news!

My dad is finally considering sending it in. But he says he won't do it till after the holidays, because chances are, there are gonna be loads of broken Wiis being sent in. He's afraid that if I send it in now, I'll never get it back.

Dude, No worries if you send it in now. I sent mine in one the 7th and got it back on the 14th. Nintendo is really fast and they pay for everything. Just contact them and they will give you a prepaid shipping label to print out.
