I have 2 remotes and both work up until the games start. The system recognizes both remotes so I know they are both synced. Both remotes are able to assign a player so I know they are connected all the way up until the game starts.(Wii Sports) I have already tried unplugging the power source for about 30 seconds. The only positive is that my kids have stopped arguing.

The fact that they have both stopped working seems to point at a problem with your Wii, which is unlucky as most WiiMote problems are simple to fix. Check all the stickies at the top of the page.
