i was wondering if you can use a flash drive as a storage medium for the wii like you can put photos on it to the photo channel or save games to it.

Nope, that support may come in future updates but as of now its just SD Cards.

Just buy a card reader.
I never thought having a question answered on these forums was so hard, the guy asked if an SD card would work, not if they were built into a computer <_<

u can buy a psp memory card called scan disc which stands for sd! they just cost a little more than the pro duo.its a minisd basically.
