Mines wont budge

Yeah this bit is quite tricky. Use a pin or a stanley knife to pry it up from the middle.
Try to pry it up from the center so as not to bend it, although it isn't actually that important. It is easy to bend back into shape.

I'm afraid to take mine apart, as I once took apart a PS2 controller and it now doesn't work. I guess I'll have white wiimotes forever, because I don't feel like purchasing a new wiimote after I break one :-P. Just curious, could this be done with classic controllers too??
