wii/gamecube controller for virtual games

hey i got a question if anyone can help out.
can you play some of the virtual games with a game cube controller or do you have to use a classic controller because i got raped by the accessories and ebgames said that they wont get one unitll next week and i was looking forward to playing mario bros but i cant without a classic right? well could a gamecube controller work?

you can play any game with either a gamecube controller or Wiimote

no, u can only play NES, TurboGrafx and some Genesis games with the wiimote. But yes, u can play any of the games if u have a gamecube or classic controller.

Sega Genesis titles are not compatible with the GC and require the classic controller or in some cases can use the Wii remote.

I thought genesis and Turbografx16 are still unditermined if it will use the GC controller or not?
