I've played on a few friends' Wiis and all of them made at least a LITTLE drive noise.
None of them had any issues playing games or otherwise working properly.
I'd say don't bother sending it in unless it sounds REALLY bad or literally stops working.
But chances are that it could be on its way out. Wouldn't you rather get it fixed for FREE now than wait for it to possibly die outside of the warranty period?
My wii made a clicky sound while playing madden about a month ago and then it said the disc was dirty which it wasnt considering i rarely play madden and on brawl launch i put in the disc and it made the same sound and then said the disc was dirty. WTF!!! So i ejected the disc and turned the power off, unplugged it, plugged it back in and... it worked perfectly fine.

Yeah...I'd send that Wii in. What happens when it says that permanently once your warranty expires (if it hasn't already)?
