Will a US Wii work in Australia?

I'm moving down under. Does anyone know if my Wii will work on TVs in AU? If not, what will I need to make it work? I think my US Wii games won't play on another console which is why i want to take mine rather than buy one when I'm down there. Thanks.

Well I'm not sure what inputs would be needed, but the power adapters would be fine.

  • the wii will not work on Australian TVs
    • North America uses NTSC format... Australia uses PAL format
    • you will need a converter
    • mod chips for the wii also help overcome this (google for it)
  • The the power adapter will not be fine...
    • Noth America uses 110v 60Hz cycles... Australia uses 240v 50Hz cycles
    • you can order a new power supply from nintendo which will convert australia's plug-style and voltage most safely and efficiently.

i hope you get this information

and welcome to wiichat!
here you will find a great australia section that is very active!

American wii in Australia

The American wii WILL WORK in Australia, most tv's have a setting to change input to NTSC from PAL and vice versa.

The power WILL WORK in Australia, the power cord that came with the console has an inbuilt adapter to change the output to 12v, no matter what voltage goes in, i know this as i have an Australian and American Wii console and use the same cord. The only thing you will need is an adapter to plug the american wii into the Australian power socket.

I am currently travelling in the US and am about to purchase a (black!) Wii controller with Motion Plus at Best-Buy to take back down under - to Nz - as a gift for a friend. Am I likely to encounter any unanticipated problems simply using this with my Oz/Nz console?
Personally I can't imagine there will be any problem because it is Wii hardware "talking to" Wii hardware with Wii protocols , not anything to do with the Wii talking to a PAL or NTSC tv or about power supplies. so do your Wii controllers from different countries work on both units, interchageably?
. Thanks for any help/advice
