I just set up and did the configuration for my new Wii. But, when I tried to load the game disc it wouldn't load. Instead, it made noise like it was trying to load, but the disc didn't move. I tried to egg it in very gently (thinking maybe I wasn't putting it in far enuf, etc.), but nothing is happening. Is anyone else having this problem?

So are you saying that the disc is not 'sucked in' by the Wii?
I have to push the disc in all the way to the edge of the center hole before it grabs it.

Nintendo sometimes grabs it, but the disc does not go all the way in. It stops about an inch. It won't go in by itself.

That doesn't sound good :-(
Make sure you're putting it in as close to center as possible. I noticed that if I put it in at the top or bottom it doesn't grab it very well.

I just put mine in upside down and it still grabs it and tries to read it, so that can't be the problem.

I've been fiddling with it, but I'm not having any luck. It just doesn't want to grab ahold of the disc. Sometimes when it actually does get ahold of it, then it doesn't take it all the way in the slot. It has about an inch sticking out.

Correct, the readable (shiny) side should be left towards the buttons. I put it in the opposite way, shiny to the right, and it still loaded it. It just couldn't read it.

I hate to say it, but I think it's busted
According to Nintendo they don't want you to return it...but check with your store anyway to see if they will do an exchange.

Nintendo doesn't want you to return it to the store...it was on the topmost piece of literature in the box. I think they have a number to call for support on it, you may want to try that. Yeah, it's on the bottom of the Quick Setup pamphlet.
It says "DO NOT return this product to the store."

In case someone is having this problem or any other hardware problems:
My husband called Nintendo and told them of disc-loading issue, and they said they would ship us another in two business days. We're very satisfied with their customer service - definitely, worth waiting 15 hours for it!

the way they made the cd tray leaves it so it can break very easily. the way that youtube is, id guess he did that every time when it worked, stressed the moving pieces, and called it a storebought defect. though 50-50 it coulda been :P
either way, its a machine. you let it do the work, in this case taking the cd in. my old comps regular cd drive crapped out, because we would just push it in, even though it was made so you could lol
grats on getting good customer service and a new wii !

Slot loading drives are used in every Apple Mac computer out at the moment. These drives have been used for a long time now. They do not break easily. In fact, these are harder to break than the tray loading drives, since there is no tray to step on or to go out of alignment.
This is entirely a build issue, and should be returned to Nintendo asap.

going out of the physical computer, yes, the way its pushed in like that is the flaw im trying to point out. while pushing it in your overworking the moving parts. your right, in that perspective theres less to break or snap off since everything is inside, but because the way its put in, some ppl are pushing it in and overworking it.
***btw im talking about the youtube video, not this specific case. i agree that it should be sent back to nintendo
