No he isn't right. The picture quality on cheaper cables is the exact same as the expensive ones. Unless they physically break or something. But otherwise they're the exact same picture quality.

This is neither true from a technical standpoint nor true in the real world.
While I am not advocating Monster, I can say with some confidence that it's not a given that a $1 cable will perform identical to a $20 cable, especially with analog signals like we're talking here.

I got a set of generic gold-plated cables off Ebay for $7(that includes shipping). They work as good as the set of "official" $35 cables that Nintendo sells. I tested some of those that a friend purchased on my 720p/480p Samsung 12ms LCD.

Totally worth it! As an example, play Tiger Woods and the 6 and 8 looked the same on some of the screens, the component cable solved the problem! A small investment for a big improvement!

I just can't believe that there are companies that are selling component cables for around $5. That's like £2.50 in UK money.. and some of those prices are shipped?!? Who is making the money here?? Surely there can't be enough money to go round the manufacturer and retailer, and still pay for the time to manage, sort, pack and process the order. It just doesn't seem worth it to me.... but must be, otherwise they wouldn't do it right?!

Wires really aren't that expensive. You've been brainwashed by Monster.

I had a problem on my Samsung 50" DLP HDTV where the top three inches of the screen would flicker back and forth (top three inches of screen was distorted). I went to GAME CRAZY and bought universal component video cables by INTEC for $19.99. My problem went away and my screen is free of distortion. The 480p problem associated with Wii attached to a HDTV can be solved with buying component video cables. The cables were we'll worth the investment and now I'm a happy gamer.

What makes a good video cable is the material and gauge of wire as well as shielding from outside interference. That's partly why nicer cables cost more. You probably won't see a difference between a $15 cable and one that costs twice as much.
