what's these lights on the controller..?

well on the wii-mote there are 4 blue lights. what is that? is it to show how many who plays in the game when it's multiplayer and......
?? i'm just wondering :P u can se the lights on this picture

It shows what controller you have, player one has the light too the left and player two the second to the left and so on.
