I doubt it, you would probably have to mod your wii so it can read dvd's which would be hella hard and cost some money. You will probably have to wait for a new wii to come out which will probably have a dvd compatible laser.

The Nintendo Wii is cable of playing DVDs - Here is what you have to do if you want to play one on your Wii.
1. Get your movie
2. Put it on your computer
3. Burn it onto a disc (The size of a GC disc) - It also needs to meet a certain disc size, to be able to play.
4. If you do that it should work. That is what i was told.
- I'd just buy a DVD play and save you the work/trouble.

why?
I don't think having the Wii able to play DVD's would make it any better. The Xbox has it but it is not BluRay, the PS3 has it only for BluRay. Having the ability to play a certain DVD format will only make it more expensive and useless to most people.

It actually does make it better because you dont have to buy another dvd.

The reason why the Wii can't play DVD movies is because Nintendo did not want to purchase the DVD authorizing licenses. The unit itself is able to read and play movies but without the licenses the unit will not play it. It's not a hardware issue but software and licenses issue. Just like the XBOX which can play DVD movies but without the external dvd player remote which has the licneses it won't play it.

Wow, lengthy! Again I will remind everyone here the Wii plays games printed on... DVD format! Nintendo made it clear they are a gaming console, and have no interest in walking the path of Microsoft and Sony. Still... I wouldn't complain if they unlocked it to play movies.

1) Why are you referencing AutumnWind's nuts?
2) Your logic is flawed (as is your grammar). You can't buy a PS3 without a Blue Ray player, so what's your point? AutumnWind said the other consoles cost more, so that's why you get more. What's hard to understand about that?

The Blue Ray player is supposed to cost $200 by the end of 2008. It already costs $300. I bet I could find one on sale for $230 now if I wanted to. Oh wait... I found one. Wait long enough and they'll be giving them away. As for buying a PS3 to get Blu Ray... You are an idiot. If you want Blu Ray cheap, go buy the player, and blow $25-$34 per movie. Some that are decades old.

So your telling us you held off for 10+ years buying a DVD player in hopes that the Wii could play them !?!

There you go. Perfectly said. Its funny how people still buy the wii and expect these things, and get dissapointed when its not available. Its in plain writing, and a reason why its the cheapest console.

This ISN'T the biggest complaint in our lives, we were just hoping that our gaming console that we paid so much money for could eventually do stuff like watch DVDs or play music. It doesn't mean society is lazy, cheap, or stupid.

by the length of this thread it sure seems that certain people have no other problems in there lives.
Listen, the Wii is for games and only games, get used to it if you don't like the fact that it won't play movies or make your bed sell it or trade it for a system that claims to do more.
