I assume people would be a little ticked off if their cars didn't have the ability to play music. i mean, the car IS used for driving after all, we don't need a CD player or radio in it. yet, you'd expect any new car to come with one. it'd be kind of a hassle carrying a stereo in your passenger side.

I guess the point is why the F not? My house would look a lot cleaner if I didn't have two pieces of equipment by he TV. I just happen not to be a techno geek that likes tons of plastic and LEDs staring me in the face everyday, so if I could get away with one unit that does everything, why the F not. I got the Wii as a gift, and I just assumed when I hooked it up that it played DVDs. Charge an extra 50 bucks and make it happen, I mean really this is probably just a software thing. Seriously, gaming purity? Give me a Fng break. That would be like selling a bathtub with no ability to hook running water up to it. I mean, bathing purists say you should walk to the river and get the water, and heat it over an open flame. COME ON!

Honestly, I could care less whether it had DVD playback capability. I mean I guess if I had a SDTV then yeah, I would have liked it. But since I have an HDTV, I like having my DVD player that upscales and the opportunity to get a Blu-ray player.

If it was as simple as a software update or firmware or something then I don't see why Nintendo didn't do it in the first place. But if it's a hardware change that would have tacked on money to current price of the Wii, I don't see a need for it.

yeah i think it is dumb, i mean my old ps2 could play dvds,..... it's broken but it DID play dvds. if you have to pay for it that SUCKS!!!! maybe they will put it on an update thing that you get online or on games. i hope that you can watch DVDs on it soon cuz then i can take back this crappy DVD player that was 30 bucks. if they then i am gonna be flippin mad if you have to pay for it or if it won't do it at all

Yeah, that argument doesn't really make sense when you consider all the other things the Wii does that defy that philosophy: internet browser, weather forecast, news reader, etc.

I dont think the Wii being able to read DVDs would be such a bad idea. Instead of having the game console, plus the DVD player and everything else pluged into the tv, it would make our lives much easier. My brother has a PS3 and he wont have to buy a DVD player...lucky boy ... lol

Hi all, I'm a newb to the post, but not nintendo.
I've allways thought nintendo was the supperior gaming consule from nes to the wii.
But like esoterika, I was a little disapointed in the wii. Other then a lot of fun, and games that are challenging, no hd(expected next generation), and limited in small ways.
I wouldn't give it up for anything, but we just got a PS3, and it is well worth the cost.
I think Nintendo dropped the ball on this one, in a rush to beat the compition.
