It's my imagination. And I imagine it as a new boxed system you'd have to buy. Just as Sony came out with the thinner Playstation later on, and versions of the PS3 with bigger hard drives.

Nothing whatsoever has been announced regarding any sort of new Wii hardware update or a new console after the Wii.

And as the various gameboys/DSs have gone through endless revisions. It is just guesswork, but it's credible guesswork.

I can understand Nintendo not wanting to add DVD functionality. They understood most people already own a DVD player anyway, so they trimmed $10-30 off the price to not include it. Fine, we get it.

But to not include basic audio CD capability? Despite what hal2814 thinks, (and is blatantly wrong about) virtually every CD-based game console has been able to play audio CDs....

- Sega CD
- JVC X'Eye
- Sega Saturn
- Sega Dreamcast
- Sony PS1
- Sony PS2
- Sony PS3
- Xbox
- Xbox 360
- Neogeo CD

I can't imagine it would have cost more than a few cents, if ANYTHING, to include audio CD playback on the Wii.

Yes, yes, now you can tell me to "BUY A STEREO/IPOD INSTEAD," like a total dumbshit. I'm making a point. We all already own a CD player, we get it.

I never commented on CD-based consoles playing audio CDs. It would help to read what I wrote. I'll rewrite it here with the pertinent part in bold:

Quote:
Furthermore, only one video game system ever played audio CDs but didn't use CD or DVD as a game medium...

ALL of your other examples use either a CD or a DVD for game media. The Dreamcast does not. The Sega Dreamcast released games exclusively in the GD-ROM format. If you try to run some pirated game off a CD, you'll run into errors with both capacity and loading speed. Neither was an issue for most Dreamcast games but on the ones that were you could tell CD was NOT the format of the original game. You could even hear the difference on some games.

And just to clear up one earlier point, having a 2 year old son I can attest with all confidence that a CD or DVD does in fact fit in the toilet. So do computer mice, VHS tapes, and cordless phones. Some of those items can even receive permanent damage from trying to use them with the toilet but they do certainly fit.

You can get a TV from japan and a Japanese Wii and they will work together just fine, If you really want a TV that will only play Wii games or Japanese games on Japanese consoles.

The Wii can play DVDs. It's the format they print their games on. 4gb is the average size of a Wii game. Here are 3 reasons why they can't allow movies to play on the Wii.

1.) They have to pay copyrights to the DVD companies to allow them to run DVD movies on the Wii.
2.) They have to ensure copyright protections exist so people can't steal DVDs somehow using the Wii.
3.) Nintendo has stated it's a game console. Most DVD players cost $15-$50. And if you don't have $15 to spend, I question your mentality in buying a $250 Wii and expecting it to play DVDs.

Here are some DVD players. Quit crying and look.

For such a simple task, it's not crazy to not want to double the amount of shelf space you need. Nor is it crazy to want to spend $5 more to get capable hardware liscensed rather than spend another $30 for decent player.

Nintendo's "game console" spends way too much space playing with Miis for my money. It's also got TV programming guides in Japan, so I don't think you've really got the expectations thing on Nintendo's side anymore.

All I said is the 3DO was left out as I remember for 799 you could buy the Panosonic 3DO and play dvds, quite a price at the time. However if I remember correctly they sold their hardware rights to Gold Star who sold it as cheap as the N 64.
I believe it was the first to start the DVD on Console deal, at the time the saturn only played SVCD and the PS 2 wasn't around yet.
LOL I'm old and remember some strange stuff.
Didn't mean to offend.

Then don't buy a Wii. Obviously it's not for you, since you require a game console that also plays DVDs.

There is a line behind of you 100 people who will buy the Wii that you don't want. So Nintendo doesn't care. Neither do we. Since the Wii was never advertised as a DVD player nor ever meant to be one.

My point( and basicly everyone else's in this thread) is: The Wii is made to have fun with, not to watch sleepless in seatle on. Hopefully that made sense.
