There was rumor going around that Wii already has DVD capabilities. Apparently, this came from a drunk Nintendo worker.

He said that it had DVD capabilities, just that it's disabled or something. So technically, if this rumor is right, Wii can play DVD's if someone came up with a way to enable DVD playability.

If they could, they would. The issues with making them faster and how Nintendo is maxed out has already been covered in many news articles.

No one is saying it does. However, it does have a cost, which means either increasing the Wii price, or accepting less profit per console, neither of which Nintendo was willing to do. Smart for them.

That tends to be the rule of business. You have a different metric?

Yet, the Wii is ridiculously successful based on its feature set. Nintendo, an $85 billion company, did tons of market research to decide on this move. But good thing we have you, with your $86 billion and immense credentials, to prove them wrong.

That's the right attitude! The Wii is not a DVD player, and was never designed or marketed as such.

I have a Wii magazine I got at Christmas, and it says the Wii is not DVD compatible yet, but Nintendo is planning to sell DVD-compatible Wiis in Q1 of 2008. Keeping in mind this was published in Christmas of 2007, and probably written months earlier, so who knows.

Q1= 1st quarter of the year, for those who don't know. January - March.

Since you guys like repeating yourselves, I would just like to say AGAIN that some of the older gaming consoles played DVDs (not just the new expensive ones!) and it doesn't matter what you guys say, I still think the Wii should at least have DVD function. Yes, I have money for a DVD player, and yes, I actually own a DVD player!! But I would also like it if I could save some space. It's like when I'm in class and I play those stupid little games on my TI calculator. Now, if I really wanted to do some "gaming" I should go buy a actual gaming device or something, but it was a nice additional feature that it supported, thats all I'm saying.

So can we like shut up about this now? Anyone got any more hilarious jokes about why your Wii won't bake a loaf a bread or wash your taint?
