Damn, I left my Wii on over night!
Yesterday, I turned on my Wii to browse some YouTube videos (using Opera Web Browser) and I eventually changed the TV channel for a second to watch some basketball. Well, I forgot to turn off my Wii, until I noticed today the green light was still on! My Wii was left on for almost 17 hours. I have my Wii sitting on my table horizontally and the bottom/end middle of it was a little hot when I noticed it was still on. I also had my Super Smash Bros. Brawl disc in the Wii the whole time. Could have I weakened the laser? Once I noticed my Wii was still on, I closed out of the browser, went back to the menu, and turned it off regularly.
I'm worried now if I shortened the lifespan of my Wii? It seems to be still working well, but I'm really upset how stupid I was to leave it on like that. Sometimes I wish the Wii had a sleep mode or something that tells it to turn off after sitting idle for so many hours.

Don't worry leaving the Wii on that long won't have any negative effects.
Even if you leave the Wii on standby 24/7 it gets kinda hot but very rarely overheats.

Don't worry, your wii will be fine. I've left it on playing games for that long, and nothing's wrong with mine.
@Samster: OH EM GEE!!!! is that for real?

I would think that standby (yellow light) and the Wii actually being on (green light) has a difference.

There is a difference between On and Standby, but really the Wii is not a delicate flower that will wilt and die if not treated exactly right. I'm sure there are people who have played for 17+ straight hours and that would be more wear and tear than it just sitting there on without doing anything. It's not like it only has a 100 hours lifespan and every minute counts.
Theoretically it could last even longer if you never turned it off at all. When it's turned off and on again over and over, the components go through more cycles of expansion and contraction from heating and cooling which put physical stress on the chips and circuit board. But I really wouldn't worry about that either.

I left ours on once for well over a month (not standby, actually green-light-on) while we were traveling for some business back-to-back with a personal trip.
Came home, Mario was still standing in the same place, no problems

From some of people's posts, it does sound like the wii can stand to stay on for a long time, but I seriously feel like mine would just fall over and croak.
I've been playing Mario Kart for awhile, and the thing sounds like it's having trouble loading. And I've already sent it in to get the lens cleaned.
I think I just worry too much!!
Ah well, all these posts make me feel a little better about the whole situation.
