Should I modify my Wii?
Hi everyone,
I'm new to this forum and I only got my Wii a week ago.
My question is....what are the repercussions of modifying your Wii console?
I am considering it....but I want to be sure that I won't mess up my console if I do!
Thanks!

Please, do not mod your Wii. Almost everyone that does messes it up. Just be happy with a normal functioning Wii.

you don't need to mod it if you're looking into homebrew and all that cool jazz. someone will have it soon without modding. i mean, there is that twilight hack, but something better than might come soon.

Modifying your Wii risks severe damage, risks Nintendo detecting it somewhere down the line via an update and disabling your Wii, risks quirky issues later on down the road that only happen to modded Wiis, risks getting a bad "copy" of a Wii game that corrupts your firmware or applies the wrong one for your region, and so on and so forth.
Leave your Wii alone, buy your games, and just play it like you should.

If you:
-ask the question on the wrong forum
-don't know what a homebrew is
Then "you are not ready!"

I'm positive SSBB has one, but the mkw disk is already jammed packed with data so fitting a thing like what Gigon said might not be in there.

My Wii is modded and I burnt the japanese SSBB (or SSBX) when it came out (I bought the US version). There's nothing special about it except being dual layer. It's easy and as longs as you read the instruction carefully then you'll be good.
But if you don't know where to look for the information at the first place (*cough* google) then you are not suited for doing anything to your console besides pressing ON and inserting a disc.

HAHA! I'm with stupid upstairs....
"Mario Kart Wii disk is equiped with a detection program that brick your

Yeah it's a little RoboCop inside the disk that will bust you if you don't eat all of your peas!!!!!
So you have just been convinced to pay sticker for your games!
Yes if you...or someone else does it right. It's worth it. If you don't know what to do then don't do it. Learn it and it will be rewarding....
Microsoft even starts threats of this and even they are full of crap-Like Nintendo is that threatening!

Seriously though it's what you want to do. If it's done right I don't see a problem. I haven't experienced a problem. Again, if it's done right you won't either.
