Connecting Wii to a television

I have a question about connecting my Wii to a new TV. I just got a Sony Bravia KDL40V3000. It has two regular yellow, white, and red inputs on the back. One of those inputs is connected to my Tivo. If I connect the Wii into the other other input, it works great. Same thing for my DVD player. However, I can't seem to have both connected at once. The Sony TV has another section of holes called "Component," labeled something like Yp, Yb, and a third I can't remember, along with the audio inputs. If I plug either my DVD player or Wii into those holes, the best I can get is sound with a black and white picture.

How can I get my Wii (or conversely, the DVD player) to function in one of those "Component" inputs? As it stands, it doesn't seem like both can be plugged in and ready to use, but that doesn't seem possible with a modern TV. Does anyone understand what I mean, and can you help????

Really appreciate it.

If you are hooking up via component, you need component cables. You will also need to run audio in addition as component doesn't carry the audio. If you are using component cables and your picture is still black and white that means you have the cables hooked up incorrectly. Check to make sure the colors on the cables match the connectors.

With the TV you have I would recommend using component or HDMI from your TIVO and component from your DVD player. You can get by fine using the standard yellow, red, white cable from the Wii.

Also keep in mind that you have to actually change the input on the tv to what you want to use. Most TVs don't do that automatically.

Oh my god, someone please tell me this guy was plugging composite cables into the component cable ports.

Wii owners must be some of the most unsophisticated people on the planet.

Sure sounds like he was.

Doubleup, with that TV, you should get the component video cable for your Wii. You can buy it cheap online (under 10 bucks) or pick one up at any store that has Wii stuff. It is not the same as the cable that came with the Wii. You will hook this up to the Component connectors on the TV and get a much nicer picture.

As wiips3wii said, you should also consider moving your DVD player to Component or even HDMI if it has those outputs. Again...better picture.

The yellow/red/white connectors you are trying to juggle with are Composite. They will give you the lowest quality picture. Only use if you have to.
