Help: Hooking Wii up in a Movie Theatre

I am fortunate enough to have access to a movie theatre. Problem is, there is a digital projector in the projection booth which is UP and BEHIND the theatre. Here is a crude diagram:

Long story short is that I need to find a way to have the Wii console in the middle of the theatre with the sensor bar a good twelve feet ahead or so (on a stand I guess), and the

run cables from the wii in the middle of the auditorium back and UP into the projection booth where the digital projector is.

Can anyone:

1) Recommend what cables / extensions to purchase

2) See any foreseeable problems with this set up

3) recommend a better way to set this up?

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Cheers all!

Why would you need cables? Go wireless.

Well fortunately enough I work with movie theater equipment.

Most of the projectors you will be using should have input selection similar to a TV, just make sure to know which input you're plugging in to.

As for the sensor bar, it could easily be placed under the projection screen, or on a chair a row or two in front of you. It will be best to just test out which works best, which shouldn't take long. Most of the time people hook up 360s/ps3s. Haven't heard of many Wiis yet.

What type of projector will you be hooking this up to if I might ask? It may be one of mine

The projector is a:

Panasonic PT-D5500U

which has the following inputs:

RGB x 2
DVI-D x 1
Composite Video x 1
S-Video x 1

---------------------------------------------------------------

I'm fairly savvy with everything execpt:

With the Wii console in the middle of the auditorium, what cables do I run from the console 75 feet or so UP to the projection booth into the projector?

I think that's all I really need to know. =)

That's gonna be one expensive-ass composite cable to run that far.

Woah, have fun.

480p will probably look terrible on a projected image that big though.

Can someone tell me what kind of cable I need?

I realize it will be pricey, but I don't know what to get.

A 75 foot composite cable with the male red/white/yellow on one end and female ends of the same on the other end?

IE this:

Will that work?

You probably want better quality cable than that. Composite doesn't look great to begin with. Projected onto a big screen and carried over long cable will be bad. I had to run audio over 50 feet or so and had to buy expensive cabling with good shielding and low loss conductors.

You can also try extender units...they'll cost you though. But you can then use cheap CAT5 cable to make the run. I've never used them, but I assume they aren't lossy. Take a look at these:

As you probably already know, you'll need to stay within range of both the Wii and the sensor bar. It'll be interesting to see if you get this to work. Sounds cool.

Just found the specs on the Gefen one...

Put the Wii up in the projector booth and light some candles to use as a sensor bar. This way, you don't have to spend a lot of money on extra cables, you just have to walk up to the projector room to change games.

The bluetooth will work up to about 40 feet away, so no problems there. (I've personally tested this)

I wish the Wii would have been around in '99 when I worked for a local Carmike theater. We would have had SO much fun! We did get to have private screenings of unreleased movies.

Have fun!!! That should be a great time!

I've heard of the candle technique. Does it actually work?

When attempting this, do you unplug the sensor bar from the wii all together?

And I wouldn't have trouble with the actual console being BEHIND me?

Cheers.

I'm looking at the bar being at LEAST 40 feet away.

Yes, it does work. You don't have to have the sensor bar plugged into the Wii for it to work.
