GC controller wont register

i plugged in my gc controller to slot 1 and it wont register. I keep pushing the buttons on GC controller and it does nothing...why is this?

the gamecube controller only works when you're playing a gamecube or wii game that supports it. if youre trying to use it on the wii menu it won't work.

ok well the game im trying to play it on is mario kart wii. So after i get into the game with the wii remote, what do i do from there to get the gc controller working

i don't have mario kart wii so i wouldn't know personally. im guessing there's probably an option before you race that will let you select the gamecube controller.

yeah racing games aren't really my thing. im still playing galaxy and re4. best thing for you to do right now would be to just check all the options and menus in the game. otherwise, hopefully someone here will tell you.
