Wii remote not working?

Please help before my 3 kids drive me insane!! Neither of my wii remotes are working. I have changed all the batteries and re-synched the remotes but nothing! All the 4 lights on the remotes flash simultaneously for about 20 seconds but then go off. Can anyone help asap?? thanks.

try clicking the red sync button, by the batteries,
