It is optional but everyone is going to install it because it allows you to weigh yourself and heck progress without the Disc.

I am just warning those low on memory ahead of time. Surely Nintendo has to address this soon.

I have spent a lot of money on the Wii lately. Wii Fit, Mario Kart, We Ski, rechargeable batteries $50 worth of Wiiware points for upcoming Wiiware games.

I will pay for a real memory solution but at thiss point would settle for Nintendo allowing channels to be saved to the SDCard.

The wii fit channel isn't needed at all. I have it just to fill unused space. btw I think you can put channels on an SD card, if not you can just delete them and redownload whenever you like.

Why bother installing it if it's on the disc? I don't think it's that much effort to go over the console and put the disc in. If i had Wii Fit I wouldn't bother installing it (and I didn't install the Mario Kart Channel either).

But anyway, yes, we definitely need a solution for this memory problem.

You obviously dont have young kids around putting games in the wrong boxes. The channel is great as I always check my weight first thing in the morning. I am usually groggy and running behind schedule. The last thing I want to have to do is find out where the CD is. I like the channel for Wii Fit. I will gladly delete content to keep it but it doesnt change the fact that the Wii needs to learn how to better utilize the SD Cards or come up with a hard drive.

I thought these were all saved to the SD card. I installed the chanel also. Im going to turn it on and check.OK so I see. Is there not an option to save to the SD card instead? Or can the Wii run off the save on the SD card instead of using the internal memory?

That's the problem, the only thing you can do with the SD card is transfer saves. Even if you copy a channel onto it (if it let's you?) you can't copy it back off again... the SD card really needs to be opened up for us to store channels/saves directly onto.

You can copy channels back off, but only onto your own console. But I totally agree, Nintendo should open the SD card, at the moment they're not really of much use.

yeah, I put all of the save data/channels on my SD just in case I have to get it repaired and they delete them for no reason.

You can redownload them without having to pay again.

You bring up a good point. Maybe they make a small Data Backup Channel. I know you can go into settings and data management but they could have a wizard for data backup as a disaster recovery type method that also copies data from remote. It would be nice for them to compress all tje data into a Zip like format that you could copy elsewhere.

Actually, this wasn't in the options, but I'd love to see some sort of SAMBA support or some way for me to use the Wii's wireless to connect to some sort of NAS (network attached storage). Then I wouldn't need an unsightly HD addition to make backups.

This'll never happen, of course... maybe in homebrew.

It's only a problem if you need to have the opportunity to play 10games at one time. I have a lot of VC games but I keep some on my SD card until I desire to play them. You can only play one at a time, and it only takes 5mins to reinstall. Keep your favorites installed and reinstall the others when you want to play them. This is kind of like saying the Wii should accept 6 Wii discs so you can choose between which games you want to play. You can only play one at a time anyway, what's the big deal?

It just seems like an oversight that if you can copy channels/games/etc... to the SD card that it wouldn't be that much extra work to just allow us to store them on there all the time.

I'm not saying the argument is pointless, just saying it's easy to work around. If this advance was made life would be a lot easier sure, but chances are it's not going to happen lol. So we might as well get used to copying files off the SD card.

Hey, I just noticed today that the Internet Channel takes up a whopping 208 blocks!

Yes, its time for Nintendo to address the space issue. People how say there isn't an issue aren't use the Wii for everything it can be used for. And move channels around is not a good long term solutions.

WiiWare, VC, Wii Fit channel, Mario Kart channel, downloadable channels...there simple isn't enough space on Wii as is.

The Wii is going good pulling in soccer moms, older people, etc. These are not the type of people that are going to want to have to go in and copy data from their Wii memory to the SD Card and delete games so they can download them later.
The expanded market the Wii tapped into is not necessarily a technical savvy group. People will run out of space sooner or later as the Wii Fit channel and virtual downloads eat up space. The solution needs to be a "plug n play" type solution where they plug a card in and it expands the Wii's virtual memory.

Nintendo may not want people to be able to get access of all data on a standard card so I will support a proprietary solution as long as they are not commpletely gouging people for it.
