SD Card Copying - WTF?

So I figured I'd back up Lost Winds onto my SD card so when I complete it I can just remove it to save some space and it literally took the same amount of time to back up onto my SD card as to download from WiiWare in the first place. What kind of interface does the Wii have for the SD card?

This completely ruins my hope that Nintendo would be able to allow direct access to the SD card for games and things... I think it's too slow for that. Now I can only hope that they'll flash it to allow USB drives or something similar.

Sorry, thought it was in there... how does the Wii interface with the SD card? Are the copy times I'm experiencing the same for everyone? Are the limits artificial or can they be addressed with a firmware upgrade to allow actual use of the card for DLC and other items.

well copying and streaming are different things. The Homebrew Channels takes almost no time to run stuffs off the SD card so I assume that it wouldn't be too hard to run games off the SD card.
