Hi,
I'm a WII newbie and have a question about restoring a scratched game disc. I have had my WII for about 3 months now and my kids just recently dropped the Mario Kart disc on the floor and I think stepped on it because it had some large scratches on it. I used 1500 & 2500 grit sandpaper and polishing compound to get it pretty smooth and then took it to the local video store where they polished it in their DVD polishing machine.
The disc loads up on the WII menu but when I select it it starts to read and then I get a disc error and I have to reboot my WII. if I look at the dis it looks really clean and shiny. In fact our other discs that work have more scratches on them than this one but is still does not work.
Any ideas how to revive this? It's my favorite game and all stores are sold out.
Thanks

A trick I learnt is you rent the game from a shop and then return it with your disc in
Brand new disc FTW

Try some 12,000 grit micro mesh sandpaper and wet sand it until it's smooth, then take it to have it polished. That should work unless the disc is malted, or the upper side of the disc is scratched.

Try calling Nintendo customer support and tell them it's scratched. They MIGHT be able to help you out.

Probably 'cause it's illegal. And it wouldn't work; they put a sticker on the discs that you can't peel off and put on the other disc...

I've already talked to NES customer support and they were going to sell me a replacement disc for $35 plus shipping - I may as well buy it at a regular store again.
ROB64 - what do you mean by the disc being 'malted'?

That made me laugh. But it is suprisingly a good idea. Anyway did you try it before you used sandpaper on it? I would reccomend calling Nintendo or taking it to your local GameStop to see what you can do about it. Maybe tell your kids to bemore careful. The sandpaper you used is extremely fine, it shouldn't have effected the game much. When I first read that I thought you were going to say that you were using 60.

See if you can return the disc, either direct to Nintendo or back to the retail outlet where you bought it.
If it looks as shiny as you say, it will pass as 'new' and they should replace as it's defective.
