Hello,
let me take this opportunity to first introduce myself to this community.
Now to business.
Will any headset work with the Wii if you have a game that supports voice chat? Or do you have to use that stupid mic? Also will wireless headsets work?

Nice in-depth "introduction" of yourself.
As of now, YES you do have to use that "stupid mic". No headsets are planned for the Wii that I know of.
Go to youtube.com and search "shokio wiispeak". I think WiiSpeak is far ahead of any headset.

There is only one game to date that supports voice chat which is Animal Crossing, and it is designed to use the WiiSpeak microphone. I haven't yet seen any reports confirming whether or not another type of microphone will work, but a headphone option is available in game.

I'm not aware of any stupid microphones that have been released for the Wii, unless you're referring to Rock Band or Guitar Hero microphones. But I can't confirm whether they are stupid or not. I'm pretty sure they're not on the level with human intelligence. However, the WiiSpeak micropohone appears to be a bit more intelligent than others as it filters out your in-game sounds.

It is my understanding that wireless headsets have been around for quite some time and do indeed work. I have a bluetooth headset I use with my Blackberry and it works quite well. If you are referring specifically to the Wii, though, there is currently no way to connect a wireless headset directly to the console.

I personally dont think Nintendo will ever make a head set. Personally, I beleive that wii speak was created to keep things clean. If questionable things are being said during games, the parents of the younger players will hear it and be able to take whatever measures they feel fit, giving nintendo a great selling point to the parents. On another note, COD WAW would have been a perfect game to have wii speak compatability!

Well I have to admit being able to filter out background noise is a nice feature that I wasn't aware of. The reason why I'm not a huge fan of the Wiispeak mic is because it doesn't give you much privacy when your Wii is in the family room. While it isn't really private on a headset it seems like talking across the room will feel kind of public.
I guess I shouldn't judge a product by the pictures though because I haven't yet used it.
I'll look into the Wiispeak mic a bit more though.
Also I'll introduce myself in the introduction section.....
Thank you!

It's hilarious how all these "hardcore" badass gamers talk smack over Xbox Live or on internet forums.
Then as soon as WiiSpeak is announced everybody has their tail between there legs like sissies. "Well I don't know, I don't want my mom to know what we're saying".
LOL!!!

I'll have to say "amen" to that. Why are people trying to keep these conversations private? The people I generally see complaining about this issue are having conversations with total strangers. A private conversation with a stranger during a video game that you don't want your family to hear doesn't sound right to me. If I found my daughter doing something like that there would be serious consequences.
Besides, if you want to have a sensitive, private, in depth conversation, use the telephone!

Well its not that I don't want my family to hear it it just seems weird to talk across the room with no phone near your head or a headset on but I guess you get used to it.
And besides when I play games with my friends I talk differently to them than I do to most of my family. That's not wrong.
But what ever even though I don't talk smack like some idiots I don't think you can talk smack while playing Animal Crossing "OH Paid of my rent what now Bi***??!!"

Telephone conversations are not that private. People can always tap into that, especially the government.

I live alone, and I'd still prefer a headset over WiiSpeak.
Mostly for an ambient noise/sound-quality issue. The only place I could put it would be basically right on top of or in front of my center channel speaker, and I'd be about 10' away from it. That is not an ideal arrangement at all.

It might've been cooler if the Wiispeak device had a speaker built in instead. My understanding is that it plays through you're speakers.
I have a great surround sound system(Boston not Bose) and I'm wondering how this will pan out.
I still prefer it over a headset(yuck!) although if I didn't have surround sound I would probably prefer a headset.

Perhaps if you were planning to sell secrets to the enemy or discuss plans for terrorism it would be cause for concern. I'm thinking Wiispeak would be an even less desirable option for that. As I'm not considering perpetrating either of those crimes, I'm really not concerned that the government will start monitoring me.
Of course, I'm speaking as a citizen of the United States. I would probably have a different opinion if I lived in China or some other Communist nation.
