Ok, a while back I noticed some red tint in the corners of the screen while playing and the disk stopped reading. After searching online I concluded that it overheated. I had my Wii overheated. I sent it in this summer to be fixed. To my understanding this is what happens to Wii's that overheat.

1. The heatsink is bad, or improperly placed on the motherboard.
2. Lots of playing, or leaving WiiConnect24 On in Standby(which turns off the fan) lets heat build up and can't escape.
3. Your insides are fried.

When I got it back the first time it was fine for a while. But after ACCF and COD5 were released I played alot more and it started it again. My conclusion is that Nintendo fixed my damaged hardware, but they didn't fix the problem (what I assume to be a heatsink issue). I am going to send it back to Nintendo in a few days and hopefully get it back before Christmas.

If anyone has any comments, suggestions, or other ideas please post. I am very open to suggestions.

Goose

Well this would be hard to do but i did it with mine, try (if you have the tri-wing screw drivers) taking off the side panel and looking around in there.

DON'T TAKE IT TO BE FIXED unless you are positive you can trust the people fixing it. I sent in my PS2 to be fixed cause the something in it broke (never found out what) and when I got it back it was still broke and the little flap for the memory card was snapped off.

So unless your going to redeem your warranty don't send it anywhere to be fixed (maybe Nintendo if they will take it).
if you do have the right screw drivers try finding a different fan that will fit or perhaps a different heatsink, I never replaced mine I just had to move it. I have heard of people modding Wiis in this way though. Google "Wii Mods" and look around the websites you find for better fans.

If your gonna void your warranty, and it's away from stuff that would damage it, would there be any harm in taking off the side panel so as not to hold in all the heat? Or maybe just take it off, put some cool looking holes in it for ventilation? The problem with the heatsink would still remain, but it probably wouldn't get near as a hot.

Yeah, I have had my wii fixed 3 times now, at least 2 of those times were due to overheating. I suggest you turn WiiConnect24 off, and buy this Wii Air Cooler by Intec. I did a lot of research on Wii cooling fans and determined that this was the best one, and I'm quite happy with it. It may seem a little louder when you're first using it, but after a few days you won't notice it at all. I highly recommend it.

Provide enough space for your wii to circulate and get some air. Make sure the wii is vertical. When its on its side the bottom part gets hot after an hour and how you say you play will surely overheat. Its not necessery if you do all the things above but if you want to be sure get a wii fan. Theres one at Gamestop that also adds a blue lighting effect on your stand.
