So will a Linksys WRT54GC work fine as Wireless Router to connect my Wii to? Cuz I'm about to buy a brand new one on eBay for $35 total. Is that a good deal and please let me know if it will work alright. Do I need to get Firmware upgrades for it?

Channels 1, 6, and 11 are the main channels used on wireless routers.
I've run mine in all 3 without issues. All routers sold in N/A will support 1/6/11 for sure, Europe might support more, not sure. The channels between 1/6/11 are not truly separate channels, which is why we stick to 1/6/11. |

Anyone else care to enlighten me? Surely there are more people who have this router or know something about routers in general. Which one is better: the Linksys WRT54GC or the Linksys WRT54GS? And why? This is really important because I'm about to buy a wireless router and I want a reliable one that produces a good strong signal.

There are 3 main models in the WRT54 series.
WRT54G is the original, there are several versions of this model. I'd reccomend it. WRT54GS is similar, but has "speedbooster" added in, a proprietary protocol which when used with other Linksys "speedbooster" products can increase speed. This will have zero performance increase on the Wii as it does not support speedbooster. WRT54GC is the compact version of the WRT54G. It has an internal antenna, so range theoretically is not as good, though we use a couple of them in our office and range seems about the same as the regular 54G models we have. I believe these are not as "modable" as the standard 54G but I could be wrong. This only matters to you if you plan on installing an aftermarket bios on it. In general, the WRT54G or 54GC are both good. if you find a 54GS for the same price, might as well take it incase you ever get a laptop card or something else made by linksys supporting speedbooster. |
