Hello, i am having some trouble playing mario kart online.
I can connect to the internet, wii shop channel, and most everything else. But when i connect to mario kart to play online (WFC), i get as far as everyone being chosen regionally to play a race, then when race time comes, i get the "you have been disconnected from the other players"
i have tried to race different times, days and its still says the same thing at the same point in time (Right when a race is about to start)
i have looked through this entire thread and i did not find a clear answer.
i am running wireless.
Any help would be appreciated. thanks.

Nintendo has said that there would be a chance for modded consoles to be bricked, as of right now however there does not seem to be any check against it. Be careful in the future however.

This error code usually indicates a problem relating to wireless security. Please try the following troubleshooting:
Are you using WEP or WPA security on your router?
Log into the router using the default IP (consult your router's manual for assistance)
Locate the "wireless security" section of your router settings and find the WEP or WPA key.
If you are using 64-bit encryption, the WEP Key must be a 10-character key consisting of numbers or letters A through F.
If you are using 128-bit encryption, the WEP Key must be a 26-character key consisting of numbers or letters A through F.
The WEP Key must be a Hexadecimal (0-9, A-F, no other special characters or letters).
If your router has multiple slots for a WEP Key, make sure the active key is the one in the #1 slot.
If you are using WPA, the Wii console is compatible with the following types:
WPA - PSK (TKIP)
WPA - PSK (AES)
WPA2 - PSK (AES)
If your WEP or WPA key is correct, then the problem might be related to MAC address filtering:
From the router settings, locate the "MAC address filter" settings (also known as "access control", "access list", or "network filter" depending on your router model).
If the Mac address filter is set to "enabled", then you must add the Wii's MAC address to the "allowed" list. You can locate the Wii's MAC address from the "console information" page (located under "Internet" in the Wii Settings).
If the Mac address filter was disabled, then continue troubleshooting.
If your connection was working previously, try power cycling your router and modem by unplugging them both from the wall. Wait a few minutes, and plug the modem back in. Wait a couple of minutes for the modem to initialize, then turn on the router. Try to connect the Wii console online and test for proper response. (Some routers may lose their connection to the Wii console while it is in Standby or turned off for a period of time. Check with your router manufacturer's website for the latest firmware, as there may be an update that will help prevent this issue from occurring in the future.)
Try adjusting the "Channel" your wireless router broadcasts on. We highly recommend setting your wireless router to either channel 1 or 11. This can potentially increase the download speed. For information on accessing your router's settings, click here to select the brand name and model number of your router (if available).
Try a "Manual Setup" with the Wii console (how to), using your network's IP configuration settings. To access these settings:
On your PC, click "Start" and then "Run."
Type "CMD" into the field that appears to open a new window.
Type "IPCONFIG/ALL" and press "Enter" to display a list of internet settings. Locate the settings asked for by the Wii console during the Manual Setup process and enter them.

I emboldened what is usually the cause of this error, however if you are unsure as to your security, I would go ahead and try all of their steps.

To the part I emboldened, can you connect to EVERYTHING else? If not your issue may be underlying in the system. If you have never connected to a race try port-forwarding on your router. This will most likely clear your issue up as it seems it does not want to connect with other players. Likewise you can put your Wii in your router's DMZ and see if it has any effect. Finally switch your wireless channel to 1 or 11 and see if this helps.

No, I just wanted to be sure you weren't leaving something out that you may have thought trivial. Good luck.

Playing Other People In Different Locations
Hi, Can someone please help me. I would like to play a game against my sister who is in another location in the UK, how do we play against each other? Are there only certain games you can do this with? Do we both have to have the game disk in the console for it to work? Please Help!
Thanks Puggles

I'm having trouble connecting the Wii to my wireless network. It finds the SSID no problem, I key in the WEP key (5 digit Ascii) but it won't connect - comes up with error code 51030 or 51031.
My peer to peer wireless network has worked fine with 3 computers and I don't really want to mess with it but I suspect the problem is with the WEP key. Does it need to be a 10 digit Hex? Does the network have to be set up as Access Point rather than Peer to Peer? Or any other suggestions?
Any help appreciated!

You do not need to set your router as an access point.

The only wireless network within range of your Wii console is not configured or is not compatible with the Wii.
Check to see if the router you are using is a known to be incompatible. Click here ( http://www.nintendo.com/consumer/rou...outerIndex.jsp) to view our list. If your router is known to be incompatible, we recommend using a different router if possible.
Make sure that the SSID (network name) matches exactly to what you have entered in the Wii console's settings. To verify:
Login to your router's settings (click here and select your router, if available, for information).
Look for the section for SSID (typically in the "wireless settings" area).
After you find the SSID (network name), verify in the manual settings of the Wii console that the SSID appears exactly as listed in the consumer's router. This includes making sure capitalization, spaces, or special characters match exactly.
Look up your router, if available, in our list of wireless routers, and check for any special notes that may be necesary to get the connection to work properly.
The router may not be assigning an IP address to the Wii console, and a connection using the "Manual Settings" may be necessary.
Your router may require a firmware update to work properly with the Wii console. Firmware updates can usually be found on the router manufactruer's website; consult the manufacturer for more information.

I emboldened the most likely cause, also be sure to click the url and look up your router to see if there is anything specific you may need to do to connect. Also try switching your wireless channel to 1 or 11. I poked around on Nintendo's site about the hex length and didn't find an answer... I did however find:

Some routers allow you to enter a Passphrase. This is then converted to a WEP Key number. When you are entering a WEP Key into the Wii console, the actual WEP Key is required. The Passphrase will not work.

Hope this helps, and it wouldn't hurt to lengthen your key and see what happens.

Trying to connect to the internet
Thanks for the suggestions.
I have tried lengthening my WEP key to a Hex of 10 digits, No change.
Also, my network only works as peer to peer not with an access point, although you say that doesn't matter.
I am not using a router as such, I have a cable modem connected to the internet and hardwired to my main computer. That and each of my other two computers has a wireless network card, each configured with the same SSID and WEP key to network and share the internet connection. The Wii sees the network but just won't connect to it no matter what I try. It keeps coming up with error code 51030 (yesterday also 51031).
I've tried WPA keys as well without success - though I've not tested that exhaustivey as the Wii provides three different WPA options which are not differentiated on my wireless cards - so that's confusing.
I also disabled turbo mode on the wireless network - that didn't change anything either.
So, I'm stuck, maybe it's just an incompatibility with my wireless network card, but no other computer has failed to connect to it to date.
Any other suggestions welcomed!
Graham

Ah, I thought you had a router. Other people have reported problems with ICS, unfortunately, noone posted back with how/if it was resolved other than making sure it was a bridge connection for the Wii. You may want to try Access Point to see if it has any results seeming you can't port-forward directly. Is the connection allowed in your AV/firewall programs? I am figuring you are familiar with all the ICS settings seeming as you have other machines connected, if you are sure your setup is correct you could try to unplug the modem and the Wii for ~1min and let them reboot. I poked around a bit and Nintendo didn't have anything specific to say about this issue
Here, however, is the info for your security programs:

TCP:
Allow traffic to all destinations on ports: 28910, 29900, 29901, 29920, 80, and 443
UDP:
Allow all traffic to all destinations. (Necessary for peer-to-peer connections and game play.)
"Trusted" IP Ranges:
There are also potential ranges of IP addresses that may need to be added to the "trusted zone" for your software firewall or PC security program. Each of these would need to be opened up for TCP and UDP traffic, or for some firewalls or security programs, added as a "trusted zone." Please consult the manual for your firewall or security program for more specific information.

WPA is the updated technology of WEP, and as such, is significantly more secure. Your card probably does not support it, so disregard these options.
I know we are dancing around the key problem but the issue may lie elsewhere. Hope something here helps, good luck!

I'm visiting my cousins, and they have a dial-up connection. Are LAN adapters compatible with those? I'm trying to get them online.

Even though the LAN Adapters look like they would connect to standard RJ145 phone jack, they won't. To play any games online with their Wii effectively, they're going to need a broadband connection, or DSL at a minimum. Dial-up isn't compatible, and even if you found a way to make it compatible, it would be slow as molasses to the point that other online users would drop out since the Wii, will slow the game down to the slowest players' connection speed. This typically happens when cable users try to play games with DSL users. The Wii slows the connection speed down to the speed of the slowest user, making it "drag" for the user's who have faster connections. Tell them to bite the bullet and upgrade to DSL or Cable Internet. Nowadays all the DSL and Cable Providers are bundling their services to the point where it becomes affordable for most to have a DSL or Cable connection.

The Wii has specific games that you can play online. You'll be able to see the Nintendo WFC logo in the top left corner of the game. You have figured out that you guys won't be able to play Wii Sports online together right?? And yes, you both need the game disc on most cases for to play online together.
Hope this helps!

I am setting up my new Wii system (along with Wii Fit) and having difficulty connecting to my wireless hub. I have a Linksys router which is listed on the approved list of routers for Wii. I go thru the set up, the Wii system recognizes my access point, I select it, enter my password, and it goes into the test mode ... and fails. I get an error code of 52030 by using the automatic method to connect and if I take the manual setup route the same result occurs but the error code is 52031. Any ideas? I have multiple computers on this router, good bandwidth, and this is the first time I have had a problem with connectivity.
Let me kow if you have any ideas. Thank you!
Marlene
