Lag on brawl?

Ok so me and my friend bought brawl and we love it! 10/10 no flaws!
He and I tried playing online today and got insane laggness! I know that its probably NOT me because i played Mario Strikers Charged and Battalion Wars 2 online with no problems. We dont live too far apart but he says he uses his neighbours connection. Is this the problem?

As it is his neighbor's, so it won't be good signal.

Also, it depends on his and your internet speed.

Also, it is a new game, of course there will be a sudden online rush!

There are about 500 other messages here with people complaining about lag. Give Nintendo some time to work things out and see if it gets better for your particular situation.
