eazy had the same problem yesterday(as you all know) all you have 2 do is go on ur compputer. then goto control panel. thsn firewall. there you will see three options. go to the ADVANCED tab and put in ur wii's ip address. it should fix the problem
OR go back to ontrol panel and go to network/network places and click on that. then keep on pressing continue until it says something about modem. click the bullet shared.- this is the easiest way for untech peeps
hope that helps (:

First make sure the console is turned OFF. Then try to connect. Make sure you have it hooked up right. You should have the LAN adapter plugged into a USB port in the Wii, plug an ethernet cord into it, then plug the other end into a wired/wireless router or an ethernet jack. Also try another ethernet cable. If a different one fixes the problem, it was because the first one had issues. Call Nintendo if you can't get it to work at all.

i finally figured it out. i wasnt turning the power off of my wii when connecting the lan adaptor. the wii had the red light on still. I pulled the power cord and power cycled my modem and router. haha such a simple solution.

Well I've been having a sort of similar problem.
Everything's hooked up right, and i've tried using different ethernet cords. When I have both my computer and my wii hooked up to my wired router, one works and the other doesn't. the wii will work for a quick second, and then an error code comes up saying that it lost connection. It's like my computer takes over the connection. Any solutions?

Hi there,

I got the same problem, more or less.

Got the Wii connected via the Wii Lan adapter but at times it just stops working and won't come back on. Always the same error code 51420-

Driving me nuts!

Got a D-Link non-wireless router, computers work finde, the router automatically assigns the ips.

regards
Zenfuu

hey try this

try to staticly assign the IP to your Wii. When your in the connection settings keep hitting the right arrow until you get to a thing that says "auto-assign IP"

say "NO" and go to advanced settings and plug in a valid ip address/subnet mask / routers ip address for your LAN. For exmaple:

C:\Documents and Settings\xxxxxxx>ipconfig

Windows IP Configuration

Ethernet adapter Local Area Connection:

Media State . . . . . . . . . . . : Media disconnected

Ethernet adapter Network Connect Adapter:

Media State . . . . . . . . . . . : Media disconnected

Ethernet adapter Wireless Network Connection:

Connection-specific DNS Suffix . : xxx.xxx.net
IP Address. . . . . . . . . . . . : x.x.1.100
Subnet Mask . . . . . . . . . . . : 255.255.255.0
This is your routers IP Default Gateway . . . . . . . . . : x.x.1.10

C:\Documents and Settings\xxxxxx>

now make your wii's address x.x.1.99 255.255.255.0 and the routers address as x.x.1.10 and then try it again.

ALSO MAKE SURE YOUR TELL THE WII TO USE YOUR WIRED CONNECTION

If you need anymore ion pm me and if you’re really having difficulty ill give you my cell and we can go through it step by step... BTW my job is NETWORKS, NETWORKS, and NETWORKs... I can do this shit with one hand tied behind my back blindfolded usually...

If he gets a connection it isn't a DHCP handshake error, if one of them (router or wii) is dropping it and we follow this logic, both would need the static entry to prevent the lookup, which would now have to be the case.

NOTE: not being snide, just telling it how it is.

This is unlikely either way as the router will holddown the port if it is lagging to give the device(wii) a chance to ACK(signal) back to regain connection.

The connection is degrading/breaking down completely somewhere.

I agree with this although he does get a connection, it never hurts to make sure.

Maybe the signal is getting stressed too much to allot the Wii the bandwidth it needs to stay connected, I can't think of an easy way to test this at the moment but there may be.

And if you were only talking to mason191 i agree completely with what you said.

Hope this helps!

depending on his range for mine 100-254 is my dhcp range everything below that
can be used for static address. is just depends on how your DHCP is configured

here are the steps from their website

Troubleshooting the Wii LAN Adapter

1. Make sure you are using the Wii LAN Adapter made by Nintendo, which is gray with the Nintendo logo molded into the plastic, and has the model number RVL 015. LAN adapters not made by Nintendo likely will not work with the Wii console.

2. Are you receiving an error code? If so, click here and enter the number to look up any available information for that specific error code.

3. Make sure you are using a "broadband" internet connection, such as high speed cable or DSL. Slower connection types, such as dial-up, may not work properly with the Wii console. If you are unsure what type of connection you have, please contact your Internet Service Provider (ISP) for more information

4. It is possible that your Internet Service Provider (ISP) is not compatible with the Wii console. For instance, if you need to login with a user name and password when you try to go online for the first time after restarting your PC, your ISP is likely not compatible. Please contact your service provider for more information.

5. Your access point (wired router, broadband modem*) may have certain firewall settings that are preventing a successful connection. Please review our firewall information by clicking here.

*DSL users: while some DSL modems may be compatible, our experience has shown that many are not. We recommend using a router.
