Is it possible to get internet connection on the wii by tethering it to a smart phone such as a motorola Q and if so how is it done?

Motorola would have to have their servers allow the traffic, which I doubt. In theory it should work if everything is set correctly on both ends, and if the phone can be set up as an access/relay point. If it is able to, the instructions would be in the phone manual on how to accomplish this.

Who is your provider? And is your Q EVDO compatable? My understanding is that most EVDO phones are able to double as an internet source for a computer. You could then theoretically use an ICS from your pc to wii, as I have.

As far as I know, you'd have to either have a 3G or EDGE wireless modem hooked up to your laptop or desktop, and then you could share the connection with a USB dongle or whatnot.

Or if you attach your phone to your laptop and use the internet like that, you may be able to share the connection that way.

But I'm pretty sure you can't just plug your phone into the Wii directly and get a connection that way.

The problem with all of this is that you can't install the necessary drivers on the Wii, like you would have to do on a laptop, so I would say 99.999% positively that no, this will not work.

The following assumes that you:
A)Computer must have available ethernet port.
B)Either computer has bluetooth OR there is a way to connect phone to PC with USB.
C)Cellular network is 3G (I wouldn't waste time w/ anything slower)

The only way I could see it being done would be how I described above. I'm sure that if you do some research on the motorola Q forums, you can find the proper way to use it for internet on your pc. From the brief bit I've read it seems most use bluetooth to connect the phone to the computer. This is how you will get an internet connection to your computer. Once that is done you will need to set up ICS (Internet Connection Sharing) in your computer. Purchase Wii Lan Adapter ($25?), and connect it to your computers open ethernet port. You will need to discard the patch CAT5 cable that comes with it and replace it with a CAT5 or CAT6 crossover* (~$20 Geek Squad). From there it should work without a hitch. Mine did. Only thing I CAN"T do id tell you how to get the internet to your pc from your phone. I know you can w/ a Q, just have no experience. Try edvoforums.com for general info on this, or everythingq.com/forum/ ; hellomotoq.com/forums/ for Q specific info.

*Must be crossover
