Hi guys,
i have downloaded the Opera Browser for my Wii yesterday and I tried to watch some online videos. Youtube worked no problem but another website told me to upgrade my Flash Player but I have no idea how to install it for the Opera/Wii browser?
Any ideas?

Wii Opera Browser only supports Flash Player 7 & Under. Youtube works on 7 and under (not sure which). The other sites might be using a newer version of flash. I think for now, we are screwd....

There is no way to do any kind of plug-in updating for the Wii Opera Browser since it is coded from scratch specifically for the Wii console. The Wii has a proprietary operating system, so any updates that are available for typical OS's (Windows, Mac, Linux, etc.) just won't work on the Wii (imagine trying to put a Mac update on a Windows machine, it just won't work). The only thing we can hope for is that they release an updated version of the browser (or an update package for the current browser) with plug-ins that are up to date. It could be limited to Flash 7 simply because the Wii is not powerful enough to run the browser and later Flash versions at the same time. I know on older computers, newer Flash applications do not run smoothly at all.

I think it can. It takes considerably more processor power to play a videogame than an embedded flash game. Nintendo is just stupid. They got the browser "working" more or less so they think its finished.

The wii could easily use the newer versions of flash, the memory might not hold the entire flash movie if its too long but the specs are more than enough to use flash 8 or 9. The real issue is flash is owned by adobe so first you need to get their release to have opera even be able to start programming, and then Nintendo needs to get opera to recode the browser to support the plug-in as there are no downloadable plug-ins. and FYI Wii runs a version of linux so while it is customized for Wii that's not the reason updates won't work, its based on the browser, not OS.

When Wii runs Linux, it is running it natively on the Wii's hardware, it is not running it within the Wii OS (it is similar to dual-booting). The Nintendo Opera browser runs within the Wii OS, it is specifically coded for it. For example, Mac Opera Browser is a completely different code than the Windows Opera Browser. Updates for programs are based on the OS, because the program itself is based on the OS.
My point was that they do not code updates for the Nintendo Opera browser.
"The only thing we can hope for is that they release an updated version of the browser (or an update package for the current browser) with plug-ins that are up to date".
I'm pretty sure my statement implied that the browser could be updated if they wanted to code an update for it, but it has to be specifically coded for the Wii's version of it.
