In one sentence, the Godfather: Blackhand Edition is perfect. When you first start out there are countless customisation options for your face, body structure and clothing which lets you personnalise your character the way you want it. The game starts of with a cutscene of your father being murdered by a rival gang and the Godfather tells you that you will get your revenge, the next cutscene you see is of you being rescused from a beating up by Luco and this is when the game kicks off.
The main aim of the game is to defeat the rival gangs by extorting their businesses and earning more money each day, eventually as you start to extort more businesses, you get more followers, more money and greater control over the cities. You get to chose what you want to do, when you want to do it. For exampe you could take over the whole city without completing any of the storyline...although I suggest doing the story line as it boosts up your respect and is a lot of fun.
A cool feature is that you can upgrade your guns by visiting dodgey dealers all over the city, not only can you upgrade your guns but you can upgrade yourself, when upgrading yourself you receive benefits such as having more health, giving out more damage, or being able to see shop owners weaknesses. In order to upgrade yourself you will need to earn more and more respect which you gain from the storyline and extorting businesses, this adds a sort of RPG feel to the game as you can chose what qualities you want your character to gain.
The controls are spot on. When fighting the wiimote acts as your right hand and the nunchuck acts as your left hand, there are tonnes of combos you can do such as headbutting which you pick up really easily. One of my favorite things is throwing things at people as you can take a massive swing with the wiimote as if your throwing something :-)
The graphics are far from some new wii games such as Galaxy but they aren't too bad. Some characters do look really good but some textures and environments sometimes take a second or 2 to load up. It leans more towards PS2 graphics than Wii graphics but still are managable.
In summary, if you haven't already, you should pick up the Godfather: Blackhand edition ASAP! The controls make full use wiimote and nunchuck to make it feel like you are actually beating up the characters and once you've become the Don of NYC you will have got out of the game over 30 hours!
