Guitar Hero 3

Guitar Hero 3

Published by Dorkfish

The gameplay here is the same old Guitar Hero note strumming we have all grown to love. To play the notes, you press down the corresponding button and strum when the on screen note hits the bar at the bottom. This becomes more difficult as the difficulty level raises. Starting at easy, which uses only three colors of notes, another note is added each difficulty level until all five are used when playing on hard. Expert still uses all five, but makes the notes come faster and at a higher quantity.

The soundtrack in this game has all types of music. From Aerosmith to AFI; from Metallica to The Killers, this game has a song for everyone. I myself have some beef with the song selection, as some of them have such a low difficulty on expert they just aren't fun to play. Another problem is that there is no Downloadable Content available for the Wii edition, unlike its Xbox 360 and PS3 counterparts. Nintendo has said that DC will be available in the future, and im hoping that they mean "near" future, because playing the same songs over and over again gets boring after a while.

Every model used in this game looks really good, especially for a Wii game. The stages create a feel and match the set that you are playing, and the guitarists are as colourful as ever. The only problem I have with the graphics is that the animations can be a bit clunky at times (especially with the drummer).

GH3 Wii edition provides a great Guitar Hero experience for the audience its directed towards. Wii owners will continue to play this for years to come, but without downloadable content some guitarists may look elsewhere to satisfy their rockin' needs.
Rating (out of 10) Description
10
Presentation
With both classic rock and new age rock, this game has music that appeals to all ages.
8
Graphics
The bandees and stages all look great, but some of their movements seem a little clunky
10
Sounds
What do you expect from a music game? The soundtrack rocks, literally.
10
Gameplay
The guitar has almost zero in game lag at all, making those long strings of hammer ons easier to hit. Co-op career is a nice addition, but the lack of Co-op quick play is a big drawback.
6
Lasting Appeal
The game has over 60 songs, including unlockable songs, that you can rock out on with your buddies, but unless you enjoy major repetitiveness, the lack of downloadable content really hurts the game.
41 / 50
Overall
For the first entry on the Wii, or any Nintendo console for this matter, GH3 does an extremely good job at bringing a great game to a new audience.
