I just got a new classic controller so I can play multiplayer with friends, etc. How do I sync the second controller so the thing actually works when I start games?

Just plug it into the second remote.

You have to hit reconnect and hold the 1 and 2 buttons down. Then like dakuda said just plug it in.

I must sound like a complete moron.

Do I do that on the Wii menu screen or the VC game screen?

Correct me if I'm wrong, but I think you're supposed to press the HOME button on your remote, then click on Wii remote settings, and from there, do what the above posters have said.

You don't have to sync the classic controller. As long as your Wiimotes are synced just plug it in.

If it's a Classic Controller you're referring to just plug it into your Wiimote and when you play a VC title it'll just work.

If it's a 2nd Wiimote you open the SD Card slot on your Wii and push the red sync button. Then immediately after push the red sync button on the Wiimote (it's located where the batteries are. It's a tiny red button) while aiming it at the Wii. That's how I synced up my other 3 Wiimotes.
