Wiiware?

Sorry to sound like a Noob, but I've just gone on the Virtual console on the Wii for the first time in months. I thought Wiiware would be there, but it's not.
Can someone point me in the right direction, what is it exactly?

It arrives May 12 in North America. It is like the VC, but these are original games, and not retro titles.
